  • Srgt. Shelley is one of the Fallen Soldiers of Georgia. I painted this by request of The Atlanta Fine Arts League for his parents. He was from Valdosta, Ga. /

  • Continuing the parody of that iconic song ‘There is a Season’ by The Byrds. These three Sterna bergii (Crested Terns) were photographed while taking shelter on their rocky perch at Shelley Beach , Port Macquarie , NSW, Australia, on a very grey, very damp winter day. The Terns are Australian a native seabird and very common around the Port Macquarie beaches and estuaries. I found that I could get to within fifteen to twenty feet (5-7m) from these seabirds before they became twitchy and that by leaning against a large rock I was quite able to hold the camera firmly enough for the relatively slow shutter speed required for the exposure. • Aristotle once said the elephant was “the beast which passeth all others in wit and mind”. Unfortunately, they are now increasingly threatened by poaching and human intrusion into their habitat. The original artwork measures 19×12.5 inches and was created with ink pen and liquid copper leaf, with a little bit of colored pencil work around the eye. I used acid-free Canson Mi-Teintes paper in an Oyster color. View the original artwork here View more of my artwork at www.lynnetteshelley.com

  • Taken on a recent holiday to Binna Burra (Lamington National Park) Burrajum Falls along the Coomera Circuit, definitely one of the most stunning walks I’ve ever done. To get the best light for shots, we started walking at about 4:45am, was definitely worth the early rise! We definitely felt accomplished after walking 43km in three days too! • My spider friend! Taken in my backyard on the 17th of October, 2009. This is a black and white jumping spider (not sure what species etc.). You have to be very wary of these little guys that they don’t jump on your lens! I caught this guy having a snack while observing me curiously. Canon 400D and 100mm macro lens. For those who are curious about such things, I’ve started taking pictures of my artworks as they are in progress, so one can see the stag…

For those who are curious about such things, I’ve started taking pictures of my artworks as they are in progress, so one can see the stages of development. First up is “Ursa”, a mixed media piece measuring 11×15 inches. First to the drawing board (literally) for a preparatory sketch: Then I start to make the initial colorization. I generally start with the face first: Harley Cat is apparently appalled at the direction this new artwork is taking. Or he’s just very tired. Final stages: Scan of the final image: Next up is my latest piece, “Three Ravens”, which measures 25×19 inches. The initial sketch with the first bird colorized and all the “halos” painted in with gold acrylics: I used blue pastel paper to make the color on the ravens “pop” more: / Another raven comes to life: / Starting in on the background with it’s stylized wheat field: / / The final artwork: / Professional photo: / And finally a sneak peak at a new piece I started last night, called “The Serpent Tree”, which is inspired by the various world tree / tree of life myths.
