A series of shoes tied together and thrown over a power line in a neighborhood north of San Francisco. There are many reasons why people do this, much of it up to interpretation, but when I see them dangling there it looks like notes on a piece of sheet music set to the beat of the city and people who place them there. This is an older work, pre-dating my Nostalgia and even my Attic (I’ll come back to those later on) series. It was an assignment when I was still studying photography many a year ago. It might help to know that Nocturne was the name of the cutlery and the source of my inspiration for this. And this might very well be the start of my fascination with nostalgic stil lifes. The original was shot on a 4×5” negative and it takes a special place in my heart as it’s the only one I every made a colour print of myself. That print has been hanging in our kitchen for years on end. It’s also very special because it was the first time that a shot got through the judgement of my teachers from shot one. It could take me up to three months to satisfy them, but this one was a hole in one. :) I had the negative scanned professionally years ago. It was a lot of work to clean up the scan and that’s what I just finished. So, finally, I present to you my old love: nocturne.

White Prismacolor pencil on black paper. It is a mannequin wrapped in a white sheet with some sort of animal horn on its shoulder. ** Still life done for my Drawing I class. We were supposed to draw the light instead of the shadows, quite a challenge.

Just a fun juxtaposition of me and my Dean guitar. Description for DAC: Shot a photo of my guitar, duplicated it in the Layers palette. On the copy layer, I painted black around the outer edges of the guitar where there were some remnants of the cloth background I shot the guitar on. I then shot a photo of some of my sheet music and placed it in as a new layer, and lowered the opacity to about 40% of it so it wasn’t so bright imposed over the guitar body. I erased the overlapped parts that went outside the guitar body. Next, I placed a layer of a photo of myself and rotated it to fit the sound hole of my guitar, and erased the overlap outside the sound hole. I then flattened the image and here it is..

My sister gave me these roses for my birthday, so of course I had to have some fun with them. This is a different take on something similiar I shot awhile back. I also added one of my textures. Sheet music is of one of my fave songs, Good Enough by Evanescence, I can play most of it on piano, but can’t read music, funny that way :)
