This is acrylic and pastel on canvas card. While painting it I was thinking of a name for it. In my mind I heard the voice of William Shatner stating: “My friends; the new Excelsior.” And so, Excelsior was born.

James Tiberius Kirk is a character in the Star Trek media franchise.[1] First portrayed by William Shatner as the principal lead character in the original Star Trek series,[2] Kirk also appears in the animated Star Trek series, eight Star Trek movies, and in numerous books, comics, and video games. Chris Pine portrayed the character in the 2009 Star Trek film, with Jimmy Bennett playing Kirk as a child.3 Other actors have portrayed the character in fan-created media,[5] and the character has been the subject of multiple spoofs and satires.6[8] Kirk has been called “the quintessential officer, a man among men and a hero for the ages”.[9]
