  • This was taken in the summer of 2007 at a favorite spot of mine at Jones Valley on Shasta Lake, CA, about 16 miles north east of Redding, CA….It was a perfect day and the light was very cooperative with me and my camera…..this has become one of my favorite places to just kick back and relax….and the fishing is not bad, an added plus. Common species most often caught here are Bass, Crappie, and Trout. It is also well known for camping, hiking and boating. / __ / All The Materials Contained May Not Be Reproduced, Copied, Edited, Published, Transmitted Or Uploaded In Any Way Without My Permission. • This is a little bit of fun mixed in with an image I took in Northern CA last Summer. The place: a well known swimhole close to Cattlemens’ Camp which is a favorite area for camping and also hunting deer South of Mount Shasta and McCloud. The critters in the water are a result of an actual photograph I shot in a local Nursery in Redbluff, CA….garden decor….. a few frogs from another photo I shot here at home so all combined to make this fun image…...Edited with PhotoImpact11…....hope you enjoy…. • Taken this evening at 6:47 PM in my front yard here in Anderson, CA. Looking West across my neighbor’s pasture….........The smoke is going to be thick tonight; another fire began this afternoon about 15 miles from us…still very many burning in Shasta County and some have actually joined…....today was very hot and windy…..we saw 110 this afternoon and the wind was like a hot furnace blowing…........... / / / ____ / All The Materials Contained May Not Be Reproduced, Copied, Edited, Published, Transmitted Or Uploaded In Any Way Without My Permission. • All photographs are there to remind us of what we forget… In this, as in other ways… they are the opposite of paintings… Paintings record what the painter remembers… Because each one of us forgets different things, a photo more than a painting… may change its meaning… according to who is looking at it…. / John Berger There are actually 3 levels along this portion of the McCloud River in the Shasta-Cascade region of Northern California… a Lower, Middle and Upper Falls… obviously by my caption of this shot… you are viewing Middle Falls. The hike is very scenic back to the Falls, and not overly crowded either. It was like having our own private little waterfall both times we visited this area, as we had the place literallly to ourselves….

  • Shot at Shasta Lake just recently, October 18,2008…..during the drought…..This is how so much of our lovely Shasta Lake is looking and unfortunately the prediction is for a long drought….........Only time will reveal results such as this and only time and lots of rain can help…..Pray for RAIN! DAWN / So sweet and soft her footsteps in the dark of night; she so innocent, fragile and unaware of her untold plight. / She laughs out loud; eyes open wide, skipping to a tune only she can hear. / It seems strange, perhaps a little magical, that in her world of total darkness she has no fear. / She aimlessly strolls along, lost in her world of nightly visions and yet she is not alone; for in the darkness of night, a predator awaits. This marauder is cruel, vicious and capable of changing all fates. / The darkness seems comforting to her in her time of bliss, for “what you can’t see you often don’t miss”. / Though unknowing she may be, in the not so distant another can see that she is vulnerable, delicate as a new born fawn. / Time lingers there, anticipating her next move, eagerly trying to prelude dawn. / Dawn is the beginning of a new day, a new year, a new time, a new era; Dawn is the Beginning of Time or the End of Night; quite possibly in this case, dawn is the end of this fair maiden’s plight. / Feeling the warmth of her breath, the glimmer of distant lights in her eyes, the smell of her hair, Time closes in and awaits that one moment, that fleeting fraction of a second when caught off guard she is so totally unaware. / Night has ended and those precious moments are forever gone. / The predator Time has won; alas, it is now Dawn. / She awakens and looks in the mirror, face old, hair grayed, and skin taught and drawn. / She knows now that her battle with Time is lost; it is indeed a new DAWN. / By / Joyce Dickens / / / _____ / All The Materials Contained May Not Be Reproduced, Copied, Edited, Published, Transmitted Or Uploaded In Any Way Without My Permission. • Keep close to Nature’s heart, yourself… and break clear away, once in a while… and climb a mountain… or spend a week in the woods… Wash your spirit clean…. • We should be as water… which is lower than all things… yet stronger even than the rocks…. Oglala Lakota (Sioux) Lion Slide Falls is located outside of Redding, in Northern Calfornia… it’s also called Hatchet Creek Falls by locals….

  • Though this is far from a true B&W image, I thought the title was well suited. This original capture was in color, shot of Mount Shasta in Northern CA in September, 2007…...inverted and the data converted to B&W…..some final editing was done for the finished effect. • Since relocating to Northern California last summer, I’ve been patiently waiting to get some shots of the lenticular clouds that show up on occasion over Mount Shasta…. this particular day, they hung around all day long, offering up some of the most fascinating cloud formations… it was quite hard to get any work done however… had to keep taking mini breaks for sure!

  • Captured looking East just outside my living room window, on 09/03/09 at 6:48AM… that’s Mount Lassen (aka: Lassen Peak) midscreen to the right – Please view in large format…. Lassen Peak (also known as Mount Lassen) is the southernmost active volcano in the Cascade Range. It is part of the Cascade Volcanic Arc which is an arc that stretches from northern California to southwestern British Columbia. Located in the Shasta Cascade region of Northern California, Lassen rises 2,000 feet (610 m) above the surrounding terrain and has a volume of half a cubic mile, making it one of the largest lava domes on Earth.[5] It was created on the destroyed northeastern flank of now gone Mount Tehama, a stratovolcano that was at least 1,000 feet (300 m) higher than Lassen. Lassen Peak has the distinction of being the only volcano in the Cascades other than Mount St. Helens to erupt during the 20th century. On May 22, 1915, an explosive eruption at Lassen Peak devastated nearby areas and rained volcanic ash as far away as 200 miles (320 km) to the east.[5] This explosion was the most powerful in a 1914–17 series of eruptions that were the last to occur in the Cascades before the 1980 eruption of Mount St. Helens in Washington. Lassen Volcanic National Park was created in Shasta County, California to preserve the devastated area and nearby volcanic geothermal features. Unlike most lava domes, Lassen is topped by craters. A series of these craters exist around Lassen’s summit, although two are now covered by solidified lava and sulfur deposits. Lassen is the largest of a group of more than 30 volcanoes that have erupted over the past 300,000 years in the Lassen Volcanic Center. / Compliments of Wikipedia /
