  • views: 522 / favs: 15 Taken May 20, 2007 with a Fuji E-510. See my Miura Coast calendar. This rock in, known as Shiroyama (literally means “white mountain”), is located Arasaki Park (Yokosuka, Japan). Yokosuka is a city in Miura near Hayama, the town where I did my internship. Hayama is renowned for the beach and green hills, and this place was just a drive down. Hayama literally means “leaf mountain” in Japanese, and indeed Hayama is full of green mountains. The coast of Yokosuka, Hayama; along with other cities in Miura are popular for their beaches and offer a rich experience with nature. • I was commissioned to take some photos of hands in a variety of situations and activities for an organisation call Scripture Union for their website. Part of that collection was this shot of my friend throwing a pot. i was captivated by the way her hands worked the wet clay, moulding and shaping with care and precision. The bible describes in Jeremiah 18 how a potter who creates the vessel can destroys it when it is corrupted and fashions a new one. We are in the creators hand ready to be moulded for his purposes. With strength and care, the hand holds the clay. • Canon EOS-1Ds Mark ll / • 28-300mm IS zoom lens / • f/2.8 / • 1/15 / • Exposure Bias -1.00 / • ISO 160

  • I took this sometime in the summer in my bathroom. There was a giant spiderweb on the window so I sprayed it with water… most of it ended up on the window which is the bokeh you seen in the background. Enjoy!

  • grass seeds rise out of the fog on Hob Moor stray in York, North Yorkshire, back lit by the morning sun, framed by the trees.

  • It might look like a really complex image, but it is the simplest of all concepts. It’s not a giant tunnel in a museum – it’s just a little toy Slinky – but it’s heart-shaped instead of the common round ones. I held it in my left hand, chose a focal length and let the Slinky drop out to its full length, shooting it simultaneously with my right hand while it sprang back and forth. The Slinky was bi-coloured. It started out dark orange and gradually changed to a light green down the bottom. To create the impression of a perspective that was vanishing into the distance, I shot this in a room at home, in low light. But I shot it directly under a recessed light fitted to the ceiling, knowing that the glow at the bottom of the image, on the light-green plastic surface, would be interesting. I shot five images, each from slightly different angles, but this is my favourite because it creates the impression of a never-ending pattern that starts and ends with a clear heart. I do not crop, enhance or post-edit my images in any way. Shot with a Pentax K10D in June 2007. F3.5, 1/25sec, ISO 400, focal length 25mm. Featured in IMAGE WRITING, June 2009.
