Took this shot during my 1st time stay at Shangri-la, Sydney.. The bed, the bathroom and the view was amazing!!! XD Alas, we’re more busy preparing a presentation in the room.. T_T

Taken at Shangri La Jungle Lodge in the Amazon Rainforest, Ecuador. The upper Napo river is seen in the foreground, and the Volcanoes of the Andes in the distance. This was an absolutely idyllic place, set on top of a cliff providing the most amazing views. We saw frogs, monkeys, bats, snakes and very large spiders to add to the excitement! This photo was actually taken at the tourist location of Skansen in Stockholm, Sweden in July 2008. Shangri-La is a fictional place described in the 1933 novel Lost Horizon by British author James Hilton. In the book, “Shangri-La” is a mystical, harmonious valley, gently guided from a lamasery, enclosed in the western end of the Kunlun Mountains. Shangri-La has become synonymous with any earthly paradise but particularly a mythical Himalayan utopia—a permanently happy land, isolated from the outside world. In the novel Lost Horizon, the people who live at Shangri-La are almost immortal, living years beyond the normal lifespan. The word also evokes the imagery of exoticism of the Orient. The story of Shangri-La is based on the concept of Shambhala, a mystical city in the Tibetan Buddhist tradition.

The sightseeing is spectacular along the Youlong River near Yangshou, China. The color and detail in this Paul Jackson watercolor really does capture the feel of life in this southern Chinese area, noted for rock climbing, spelunking and, of course, it’s natural beauty. The painting is one of a series by the artist from a 2008 trip to China.

This was shot in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, in July 2008. We were exploring our hotel, the Shangri-La, when this sight stopped me in my tracks. This was the entrance to the Shang Palace restaurant in the hotel and the rich colours were a feast to match the cuisine. I do not crop or post-edit my images in any way. Featured in MOOD AND AMBIENCE group, June 2009. Shot with a Pentax K100D, using a Sigma 18-125mm lens. F4.5, 1/8 sec, ISO 800, focal length 38mm.
