My grandfather grew up in China prior to the second world war. He told me stories of an exciting existence, an intertwined reality of ex-pat decadence and rich Chinese culture. I wanted to design a motor car befitting of some of his stories, and create a scene of context. I suppose it’s a parallel universe viewpoint of an automobile that could have been. This image is dedicated to him.

From a film shoot I did in China and this lady is an extra on set. I was struck first by the light and what made it perfect for me was her position, her pose was so of the period. The way she sits so “proper”.

This is a variation on that wonderful little art deco piece from Dover Publications copyright free archives that I used for ‘Hollywood Nefertiti’. I watched an old Charlie Chan movie the other night and it got my imagination going. I’m an old ‘B’ movie junky. I love them. So Charlie Chan eat your heart out. This is a vamp in the old Hollywood tradition only this time around in living color. / I have gone back and looked up the music I was listening to when I was designing this. The music was on one of those info-commercials. I found them on ‘YouTube’, my son told me you can find anything on youtube. The name of the group is ‘The Twelve Girls Band’ a group of super beautiful very talented chinese musicians using traditional instruments. This selection doesn’ emphasize the traditional instruments but I think it captures the elegant feel I was trying for with the artwork. Another photo of a homeless cat I found while wondering in Shanghai’s Zhong Shan Park. This little fellow was not shy at all and was quite comfortable letting me shoot him. Just love the blue eyes! Thought I should bring this back as might be published in AUSTRALIAN PHOTGRAPHIC SOCIETY’S IMAGE MAGAZINE…..........that is if I can FIND IT in my filing system and by then they may have changed their minds!! STUCK in a HARD PLACE!! CHINA TODAY Today the newspaper triggers my creative thought process and the word is STUCK Yesterday ,as I travelled to Apollo Bay, the word was RAPE strange what you see in that complex network of powerpoles, kilometre after kilometre. HERE YOU and I are also reponsible for this disgraceful behaviour. split values in society! Men MUST be responsible and so MUST women. No use crying “WOLF” after the event. Both women and men MUST protect themselves. Lives changed by foolish decisions. behaviour in society/on the streets which is NOT acceptable. BRUMBY GOVT. allowing MORE party drinking venues in our CITY CENTRE of MELBOURNE. NOT enough police on our streets TELEVISION serving up a pile of RUBBISH ….I see suggested RAPE scenes/SEX on MELBOURNE TV. A warning to the viewer does NOT mean it is ok for US to be served out this RUBBISH/ CERTAIN types of REALITY TV have helped pave the way for this behaviour in our homes/schools/streets/etc…..... / MUSIC:I have listened to music which actually suggests sex/sleeping around….......DRUGS and ALCOHOL RADIO: YOU are also responsible NEWSPAPERS/MAGAZINES: YOU are also responsible.
