“The Gate” in shadow
Runner up of the In Praise of Shadows Competition
Computer guys are a busy lot and some even hold down a 2nd job. / This t-shirt forms part of a series with the other ones being plain text.
Do you stand out from a crowd…..Are we all living in each others shadows?! Designed for the Shadow07 comp. Original design created by myself on photoshop.
Japanese umbrellas made of thin paper diffuse the light rather than block it. it darkens colour and creates shadows that can be scarey. detail of geisha /
A tribute to Banksy / I may not be taking this competition as seriously as I should.
Design for the latest t-shirt comp at Red Bubble..
My response to In Praise of Shadows is to share some monster love. This is my first t-shirt so I hope you like it.
I tried to do like a charcoal sketch effect on image. The original image was done on textured canvas. I photograph and digitally manipulated it but retain the canvas texture. Enjoy! Click thumbnail to view image alone: / # / Me, in a white girly fitted T-shirt, size S. I like wearing it with a denim jacket. :)
GRRRRRRRRRR redbubble has messed this image up, it was fine before the new printing system :( what began as a day-dream, resulted in a doodle, became a sketch, was followed by a digital rendition and is now a Tshirt.
A humourous play on the darkness theme. I love b-grade movies and big bold things on t-shirts. Hope you do too. When are they going to bring out black t-shirts?
My entry to the “Praise of shadows” competition. An explaination is probably in order here too.. / The book the competition was based on addressed issue of traditional sensibilities being over-ridden by western influences,...leaving behind the natural world, and willingly entering into an artifically lit, technology driven environment. What i was trying to portray here, was the old world, having been effected by technology, walks free of it`s own past into something unknown. Old world meets new, yet still being a part of one another. / The Pagoda creeps out of the panel of a wood-cut style print. Aged paper textures, Spray paint & inks, all brought together in photoshop. I`ve positioned the image on the shirt a little larger than I would have it printed, mainly so it`s details are clear.. Hope you enjoy.
Blood for oil. It’s a world wide suicide. Other versions :
Check out my other tees too!
A slow day in the burrow.
Now that the official In Praise of Shadows competition is finally over I can actually enter. Had this in the wings for a while, but due to some complicated principles that now escape me, I couldn’t bring myself to submit. It’s a simple piece really, implying mankind’s ability to take almost everything they discover or invent and, eventually, turn it into something that will stunt, harm or negatively affect our future, ecologically, socially, and financially. That’s an Avro Vulcan bomber for those of you who care, which, had you been hanging around East Germany during the ‘60s, you’d have seen patrolling the skies 24 hours a day with their Blue Steel nuclear warheads. (Designed and tested in Woomera as it happens.) Here are some details of the morph, because you can’t actually see what’s going on. / / /
I had the idea knocking about and was inspired by Lucans late entry to just get it out there comp or no comp: The theme of the comp reminded me of Plato’s cave. That would be suitable praise of shadows in my book. / Then the challenge was how then to demonstrate this idea in a T? / Of course… simple …the mouth of the cave acts as a pinhole camera (we move the fire just outside the cave ...where it should be anyway) and we place the corporeal world in-between for illumination and there you go… / ...another one word T shirt…. hmm / Yeah, they’re supposed to be fire shadows… ....if anyone wants to set up the real thing I’ll be happy to bring my camera! Revised 13 08 07. thought the idea deserved another go at the graphic.
