This was taken between Mt.Hotham and Dinner Plain, at JB Plain in the Victorian Alps. It shows one situation where shooting in the middle of the day was the best time as the broad snow gum canopy cast a nice consistently patterned shadow across the fresh snow. / ~ / Browse Images by Category : Snow Landscape Nature

One must suffer for your art correct? Well this might fit, I headed out this cold December dawn a year ago with temps at -5 and windchill at -30. A bit chilly and I learned that if you take a glove and grab a metal tripod leg your hand will stick at least for a few moments. I hope the image was worth it! The frozen surface of Mud Lake just after dawn one cold winter morning. The long shadows of the tree stumps making eerie lines across the ice and skiff of snow on top.
We took a drive to the other side of the park to see the ducks and geese….poor little guys, they stay here all winter because people feed them all during the warmer months even though there are signs all over saying not to….I wonder if those same people venture out of their warm homes to feed them, when their ponds are frozen and they are hungry. / . / . I had to nab a shot of these shadows at sunset and you can see some of the little guys in the background. / .. / . / . / . / . / . / . / . / . . . / . / . / . / Landscape photography….cheap kodak digital camera…set to landscape and added a small touch of shadow…he he he. Wish I had the fancy stuff but not too bad anyway huh ? (crosses fingers). Maybe after Christmas I’ll get my hands on one and begin to learn what all the talk is.
A winter panorama shot of the valley Valldal on the west coast of Norway, taken during the christmas holiday. Stitched together of 15 pictures. Post-processing: / Stitched some pictures together, obviously. Fixed the contrast with curves, added a lighter curve only on the lower part as the valley was pretty dark, and the mountain tops really light. Added two black and white layers set to hard light (140%), mainly on the sky and the mountain tops.

Mountains, just blue mountains! Reaching to the horizon… This is a landscape of my dreams! View from Jungfraujoch, Bernese Oberland, Switzerland. Jungfrau-Aletsch-Bietschhorn World Natural Heritage . July 2008. Canon EOS 300X, Sigma 28-135. Post-processing: retouch (the negative was unfortunately heavily scratched), tonality adjustment, warming filter, distortion correction, watercolor, sharpening.
One of those bitter cold mornings where you don’t want to be out but the light calls you. A frozen dawn, where the long shadows on simple grass become long and dramatic.

Taken “à contre jour”....I liked the smooth lines made by the sun…St-Hippolyte,Quebec,Canada. / Nikon D200 / f 2.8 / iso 100 /
Featured in Safe Haven December 25, 2008. Same scene, different minute … one of the things that fascinates me about the mountain is the incredible difference in the view that Mother Nature displays for our enjoyment … minute by minute the advancing shadows play with color and light creating nuances and surprises that feed the soul. Taken December 21, 2008 with the Nikon D40x and the 18-135 lens, circular polarizer attached, on top of Blue Knob Mountain in Claysburg, PA.

Captured on a very bright sunny winter’s day in December down by the banks of the Ottawa River after a fresh snowfall. The late afternoon sun cast very long shadows that accentuated the loneliness of the park bench while also conjuring up the summer past. Taken behind Parliament Hill in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Also appears in the calendar Reflections of the Seasons

The Sun rises beyond Makalu, Makalu rises beyond snow dunes on Island Peak. Light that has travelled 93 million miles, illuminates the snow, creating these sensual lines and shadows. People dare not tread here.
