The Mother was hard pressed to remember her daughters name and often made remarks that claimed her offspring was less than human
Ummm…..... Another one I found in my pillow. / Not quite what I would write normally but if it was in the pillow it had to be written. / I can’t decide whether it is enlightening or depressing it seems to go to both ends of the spectrum very quickly. / But I do know I got the order right. / I don’t think it would be effective the other way round.
Ever tried to explain to people that they shouldn’t judge your book by it’s cover? / That although I may look all right, inside there is a multitude of issues going haywire. / I write my cacophony of life because I don’t know yours!

UPDATE This challenge has been extended to Sunday 26th Feb, and the prize now includes a $50 RedBubble gift voucher — The Background In December, 2008 Bellmusker announced the Seven Deadly Sins – a collaboration of writing efforts linked to a theme. It was through my participation in this that I became involved in the regular Melbourne writers’ meetup, and went for a fun night out of dinner & drinks with Bellmusker , Sheamus D , Jessica Tremp , Michael Alesich , Luckyvegetable and Yasemin Sumner / (god i hope i didn’t miss anyone) Anyway, I can assure you, these people are fun, talented, creative and inspirational, and if you know what’s good for you, you’ll get inspired and follow the instructions below.. The Collaboration The writing collaboration them for this month was conceived by someone, or everyone all at once, I can’t remember, but that’s not important now. What’s important is that YOU can WIN a FREE meal, shouted to you by the Melbourne Writers by simply writing the best story (as judged by us) within the theme of “sensory deprivation”. How you interpret this is open to your imagination. It must somehow be tied to the idea of the (temporary or permanent) loss or absence of one or more of the five senses. The Rules 1) It must adhere to the theme of “Sensory Deprivation” / 2) It must be 1000 words or less / 3) The finished work must be tagged sensorycollab (or we won’t be able to find it!) / 4) should include a link to it in this journal entry (to doubly make sure we find it) / 5) It can be posted any time prior to midnight on Sunday 5th April, Melbourne time Questions? Have I forgotten to cover something? Do you need clarification on any points? If so just post a comment below and one of us will provide an answer. So you thought that once the Seven Sins competition is over there was nothing more to expect. Recently, in celebration of winning the Seven Sins competition, there was a dinner with Fleece , Lucky , Jess , Sheamus , Bell , Yas and myself. We ate, we talked, we drank, we talked, we took photos and drank some more. In the end we even turned it into a bad short animation of the night: / Now since that meant that we had finished out competition we decided it was high time to have another. Its open to any entrants. Now have a look…...here Something senseless this way comes
we all wrapped ourselves in something comfortable. We wrapped ourselves in blankets, pain and flailing arms.

Entry for the Sensory Deprivation Writing Challenge although this is kind of cheating. I didn’t get my intented story finished in time because it got too long and complicated – so I dug this one up…. I wrote this a few years ago for a 48 hour writing competition. As an interesting aside, I collaborated with some friends and we made this into a short film in the 24 hour Shootout film festival in 2007.

Like most things I write, this began as a simple story for the Sensory Deprivation collaboration… and it got away from me. I find that when characters begin to speak they surprise me and it’s all I can do to keep up. That said, I hope you enjoy reading this as much as I enjoyed writing it.
