These 2 jetty shots were only taken with my point&shoot camera (and i had promised myself i wouldn’t ever do landscapes with a point&shoot!) so they’re not the best quality but i still enjoy the geometry to these 2 shots.

I like this quarter already as Semaphore, our favourite literary magazine is enthusiastic about one of my favourite characters, Lee Dervani. Little do they know how many stories comprise the Rogue Mapping series… For now my devious darling Lee can be met at Free Download / and then of course you can vote … for Flower Power.

This was used to synchronize ships chronometers. At 1pm daily the black ball would be raised to full mast. The boats in the bay would then adjust their time pieces accordingly. Without a precise time it was not possible to navigate the oceans.

This is the Semaphore Tower in the seaside suburb of Semaphore in Adelaide. It was used to signal the ships coming into Port Adelaide,. The black ball at the top was raised everyday and dropped at exactly 1pm so all the captains could set their chronometers to the correct time.
