Got it in the post this afternoon… I thought it would be a great way of getting exposure for important causes and the artists that make the messages of conscience in visual arts. I have seen members of the redbubble community go above and beyond for raising their voice when they felt strongly about something, it’s one of the affirming things about humanity for me. So… With the Art: Action Without Violence Group in mind I decided to apply for a rather hefty grant through the *JB Seed Grant Fund... if the application is successful (fingers crossed) we can print 10,000 post cards distributed in 125 venues promoting 4 ethical and important organisations, 4 pieces of work and 4 Redbubble artists… I thought, seeing as it drove me a little crazy this week, that I would put up the artist profile part of the submission to say thanks to the other participants for their involvement. Thank you!!!

  • A New World Order?

So I was all depressed about the immanent financial crisis. THEN I thought … Could this not be the perfect catalyst for a Global Revolution, and an ensuing new World Order, with a spiritual basis? I asked my muuummy if she thought it possible. She was like no. Not yet. We’re not ready. And i was like oh ok. BUT! Here’s a way to look at humanity’s progress: as an ameliorative cycle. For thousands of years we have dwelt under the Age of the Physical, where physicality and instinctual desires reigned – think dirt-eating peasants sweltering under the sun to tend the land, or hunter-gatherers trekking across the plains to find food. Since – arguably – the Industrial Revolution in the nineteenth century we have evolved to the Age of the Intellect, where the mind as opposed to the body dominates power and its control. The technological advances of these last centuries are testimony to this mentally-focussed priority. So what is the logical progression? Body … mind … then … soul ! An Age of the Soul is Imminent! Only maybe mother dear is right. Perhaps some sort transitory stage is needed – an Age of Emotion mebbe? This reminds me of the words of Sri Guru, an Indonesian guru whom i was blessed to meet earlier this year – think Dalai Lama’s cuteness and tranquility and wondrousness only Balinese and Hindu and not as famous! After puja, he took some of us aside and gave us this message (more or less): All that is needed for change is a seed. A seed that once planted in the warm earth can germinate and grow and grow and blossom into the Beauty of the Future! So even if we are NOT on the brink of an International Revolution (which is my idealistic and optimistic mind going crazyyy at the thought of som many now sad people as a result of this icky mess) we nonetheless have a most wondrous opportunity to plant the seeds for the future, or even cultivate the soil so that futue generations can do the planting. We may not see the Fruits of the Harvest, after all, the Age of Physicality lasted thousands of years, and the Age of Intellect only a few hundred, but still … I’m excited!! Increeeease the Peeeeeace dear ones! Love yoou :) ! xoxo

CONWAY, TEXAS Next stop after leaving Amarillo was the tiny town of Conway. A large section of the old town was entirely fenced in, containing a junkyard of Route 66 relics and dilapidated buildings. I took my first photo through the fence and there happened to be a horse grazing inside. As we drove slowly further west, the horse trotted with us and would stop to look at me as I focused the camera. I do believe this was a very tourist-friendly horse who recognized paparazzi and the possibility of fame and fortune. We found another quirky ranch in Conway nearer to the interstate – The Bug Ranch. Here we saw five Volkswagen Beetles buried nose first in the dirt, but not quite so straight or at the same precise angle. This was definitely a spoof of the more famous Cadillac Ranch. In Amarillo, we climbed all over the cadillacs and they didn’t budge. However, I would not recommend doing this with the Bugs as they are less stable. ALANREED, TEXAS The first structure we saw on the eastern edge of Alanreed was the First Baptist Church, established in 1905, with a sign near the road proudly announcing its Route 66 location. At the bottom of the hill from the church was a nicely restored gas station. Built in 1930 the 66 Super Service Station was a glimpse into the past. Directly behind the station was an old garage with a restored advertising painting for Merit Seed & Feed. There are only remnants of the original town left, mostly covered with overgrown bushes and weeds. At the western end of town is an old cemetery with a historical Route 66 marker that indicates the first interment was in 1890.

For those who may not have noticed, and who may actually read this, and may actually care: Today, I uploaded a digital painting ‘Sunflower Lazy’ and two variations of it that are in grayscale. All three are somewhat different from each other, though predominantly the same composition: lady, sunflowers, sky, etc. All three have writing which accompanies them. In all three cases, the writing is vastly different and, if you take the writing and the picture together, they thusly all three become very different works from each other. Thank you for your time in reading this.

milk daisies open provocatively to the sun. i lie among them tasting felt stems, caressing leafy fingers, sucking scent. i sway with their petals towards the midday heat. ‘Sarah.’ Her voice forces daisies shut. My mother’s pleated skirt and cream buttoned blouse block light. ‘Come inside.’ The command echoes through grasses pulling me tight, making me sit up and cover my breasts and downy hair because i am naked. My mother shakes her head with her hair tied tightly back into a dark brown ponytail. She can’t see me hidden in the grass. Suddenly i think my mother looks like a schoolgirl. i half laugh slipping into my cotton dress, rising from the grass to stumble towards my mother with my hair wispy brown. i am seventeen. My mother is forty-two. i know that is very old because she never plays in the field or dances in the night or sleeps in my father’s bed. But my father is not old. He is fifty. Men stay young i think. i tell my father, ‘i want to be a man.’ My father shakes his head. ‘I want you to be a girl.’ His black moustache follows his lip upward into a curve like a soft sweet banana. He brushes my cheek gently. He has a girlfriend. i saw him once going up narrow stairs and heard a woman’s voice calling him. My mother cries in her buttoned blouse. They argue. i hate my father then. i don’t want to marry my father anymore like when i was a little girl. i want to marry a boy different to my father but – with my father’s warm hands opening to encompass me and a soft black moustache. All the boys i know have cottony black fluff waiting insecurely on their top lip. All the boys i know laugh at schoolgirls whose bodies are forming and whose breasts are not fully gown. i won’t wear a uniform to hide my body like my mother who’s afraid. i won’t lock up my body subverting deep urges to blankets and sterile linen. But can i expose my breasts to moustacheless boys with erections and voices that boast to other boys – I had Sarah in the fields? No one will have Sarah, then. Only me. There is a boy. An inventor. He connects bulbs and wires into light and earth. He shows me his discoveries, rippling the meadow of daisies. We laugh in the grasses and flowers, investigating scents and pollens and furry pods in the midday heat. There are no lies, like my father’s yet. And his hands are warm, caressing. I touch the black down on his lip unleashing me.

These two entries(essay and imagery), have been a seed in my mind for several weeks….I just did not know how it would manifest….It required much descriptive wording that could not work in the confines of poetry (as I know it). The insight regarding the correlation between the definitions and I Corinthians 13 was brought to light in the course of writing it in Word….Later as I was attempting to put it all on plaque, the imagery of Jesus turning the water into wine was captured. I had to cut back what was placed on the plaque as i could not be reproduced even in card form. I opted for presenting the definitions, a caption and imagery of the event at Cana. / If I have helped,by giving insight, encouraged anyone…my task has been profitable…weighing up incorriptible investments where moths, rust and decay hinder it not. tjc ;-)

I’ve released a portfolio specifically devoted to my design work. In it you’ll find everything from cars, furniture, ceramics and a few sci-fi images. It’s a mixed bag that didn’t seem to fit well with my other work which is mostly digital and fine arts. You can access it by clicking here. Many thanks to the RB team for featuring some of my work on the Homepage!

A feeling that I’ve never felt / So strong, deep, passionate and complete / I thought I knew what it meant to Love, / But it was just preparation for the real thing.. / The true blessing from above / Understanding it seems impossible, as love has no limit / I even tried to run from it / Hoping the pain would diminish / Love kept up the pace with my minds desperate sprint / God kept sending me subtle hints / There’s no escape, no hiding place / I had to stand tall and look love in it’s face / Feel it’s bliss, it’s pain, it’s hunger and desire / Feel it’s burning flames and walk through it’s fire / Now I stand here, In Love… / The seeds been planted but not able to grow / The planter has ceased it’s nourishment for reasons I don’t know / The flowers are wilting and the stems hanging low / But the root remains strong. / Love was planted so deep it will never die / I keep it alive with the liquid that pours from my eyes / My souls helpless cry provides the rhythm as / Love dances in my heart / Our spirits just refuse to part. / I close my eyes and see them playing / In the fields of love, joy, and happiness / So full of bliss / My mind reminds them of their selfishness / Trying to destroy their fantasy and / Force them to see the reality / But they laugh at the attempt to deceive / You can’t take away what God said is to be / He loving she and she loving he / So what am I to do? / Dismiss the fact that I’m In Love with you? / I tried and it failed…Love prevailed / And I’m left lying here with this feeling I’ve never felt / So strong, deep, passionate / Incomplete. / Waiting to be nourished and fed once again / Longing for our reality to begin.
