Bell’s Brae leading to Dean Village in Edinburgh, Scotland. Like most cities, Edinburgh started as a small town with lots of other towns and villages all around. Edinburgh has swallowed them all into its ever expanding boundaries. Dean Village is one of these. Few tourists know that 15 minutes away from Princes Street lies the secluded Dean Village on the Water of Leith. Once a successful milling community, the area was once associated with poverty and decay but the buildings have been turned into designer flats and the village is now a popular residential area. The name Dean means ‘deep valley’ as the village lies 30 meters below the rest of Edinburgh. This makes is quite unique and particularly tranquil considering it is virtually at the heart of Scotland’s Capital. There is a variety of architecture in Dean Village from the robust warehouses and mill buildings, the red sandstone cottage-style buildings to the more modern tenements of English influence. Twenty minutes from the centre of Melbourne, and a beauty that is often all mine. Amazing how I can wander down to my local beach and find a beauty and a seclusion that seems to belong only to me…..how lucky am I.

Evening on the shores of Milford Sound made for some beautiful lighting in this stunning part of the world.
In the woods, across the stream, removed from the vision of most, a small cottage sits shadowed by the trees. The land is sacred just beyond the cottage, once an old Native American burial ground. The larger home on the property is occupied by a wildlife activist, the cottage is used for the care of recovering wounded and sick wildlife. / Location undisclosed by request of owner. / Composite image, color value differentiation applied, selective color applied in Photoshop. /

It is that beach you see in a movie, that is nestled in against the cliffs. It that place that has the great waves(although not today) but is difficult to get to. It is the place you see in the Yoga Video, a place of tranquility. / This particular little place is in Santa Cruz California. There actually were people doing Yoga out on the rock, but I ps’d them out. Comments and critiques are welcome.
