During Spring for a few weeks you get this really intense green weed hitting the Sydney coast line…. I loved the contrast and textures of the green weed against the blur of a long exposure (30sec +) of the ocean and a nice dramatic sky.

Watercolor on board Ive always liked mermaids and used to peer into the waves hoping Id see one gliding inside the curl or playing with the sea lions. The kelp beds off the northern Californai coast are dense and home to all sorts of creatures, and any self respecting mermaid is going to adorn herself with the abundant shells and seaweeds flourishing in her environment. Mermaids are often depicted as sensual sirens who look as if they havn’t a thought in their beautiful heads other than luring innocent sailors to their deaths. Just as mortals have many natures, so do the seafolk. This painting is of one such mermaid who has better things to do then lay about on the rocks calling out to passing sailors. She has a sense of wonder and amazement because all around her the sea is alive with beauty. She loves her environment and is busy making necklaces and jewelry with abandoned shells and seaweeds (she would never boot a living animal out of its home or take its life for anything so selfish as making a new necklace to impress her freinds with). Below is part of her song, something I wrote to accompany the painting. I am the soft sigh of surf caressing sand. / The fluid, curling wave breaking upon sharp coral. / I am the rhythmic chant of the tides, / my perfume the salt fragrance of damp seaweed and far away lands. Ocean goddess and sea nymph, I am a daughter of the waters. / My world is a place of ever shifting, fluid realities. / I am swelling, invisible currents of sparkling light and mysterious shadow. Hand drawn A2 image on cartridge paper with a G-Tec C4 0.4 pen probably took about a year to do, but I don’t pay attention to the time or the drawing until it is nearly complete. Just been looking to buy some more pens and found out the drawn line is only 0.2mm! Featured in Works on Paper winner of the Patterns challenge in Finks in Ink

These are the oldest baths in NSW. About 1820, a natural pool was enlarged by convicts or soldiers, on the orders of Major James Thomas Morisset, Commandant of the Newcastle settlement from 1819 to 1822. Its original size is estimated as 15 feet long, seven feet wide and six feet deep. Initially reserved for military use, these baths apparently served for a time as Morisset’s private bathing place and were for many years known as the Commandant’s Bath.

Scuba Diva was influenced and inspired by two friends of mine here on Red Bubble, both of their names have the initials MT Muscular Teeth who a great friend of mine challenged me to create this one… and MattTworkowski inspired me with his beautiful photographs from under the sea…. /

cattle in nw Tasmania getting stuck into a good feed of seaweed which is high in nutrtion which the cattle love , the cows are all preagnant and just crave for the nutrition and the iodine in the seaweed…which leads to the most sought after beef in the world and is why i love living in tassie

A glorious sunset of Southern California Coast near San Diego.

On a group photo shoot last night with six other members of the Mt Gambier and Limestone Coast camera Groups. Travelled to Carpenters Rocks and to the Lighthouse looking over Red Rock Bay. With an extremely low tide the green growth was exposed and created a bed of colour across the rocks. Canon 400D, 18 – 55 lens with Hoya CIR Polarising filter. Thanks to Globalphotos for the name change!
