i do not question the thoughts that are laid upon my heart, but rather write them down as they are poured from my soul, line by line as you see them here. none of my writings have ever been edited. among the indians of the pacific northwest, the verb for “making poetry” is the same as the verb “to breathe”

Mrs Hannah's Hill
by adgrayRight up at the end of our street there is a great big hill / Where right upon the very top a lovely house stood still
This was my first poem ever and my first attempt at a children’s book. I wrote it in an hour while the children were in the court playing with said Mrs Hannah and billy cart and I was guarding the freshly mopped kitchen floor as it was drying. Mrs Hannah was the children’s favourite teacher at the Puckapunyal Army Base primary school in the late 80’s. She had a house at the top of the court and the kid’s newly made billy cart running down her drive and out through the court prompted the poem. / The things she did with the children in this poem, she did for real in her spare time and my son still remembers her with affection some 20 years on. Oh to be a teacher loved like she! Later my girlfriend’s daughter [10yo at the time] painted me the most amazing pictures to match this story and I will try to post them at a later date. / I took this to the local primary school and the teachers there were happy to allow me to read it to every class and the pupils gave me a book report in return. / I submitted these with a copy of my story and pictures to 10 publishers but was regrettably turned down. / I will try again when I know the right avenues to take. / You never know I could be the next Mem Fox with the next “Magic Pudding” ..... lol yeah right! Read it to your kids [if you have any] and enjoy :o)
