A couple of six-point bucks testing their manliness yesterday. The fights are getting a little more intense day by day. I was caught without my camera when two of the larger bucks were going at it, but this was a good substitute.

My new wolf friend seemed to like having his pictures taken – he stared “up close and personal” right into the lens. I believe it is only fitting to donate the proceeds of the sale of this image to a park that more than 200 wolves call home! :) Donation to charity / 50% of the proceeds of the sale of this image will be donated to Algonquin Park
When I gave the title to this photo, I could just imagine Ted’s disbelief: “Oh, silly Terri,” he’d write, “It can’t be deep freeze. It must be late fall or early spring even though ALL weather channels say it’s early March and the average temp that day was -35˚c. They must ALL be wrong, wrong, wrong…!” :) :) :) This was taken the same day with the photo of “camp pathfinder” in Algonquin Park – my favorite wilderness park to date. :)

Highland Cattle are an ancient Scottish breed of beef cattle with shaggy hair and long horns. They are much loved the world over. The white form of Alvie Church in the distance, standing overlooking Loch Alvie, dates back to 1380 and is one of the earliest and most picturesque celtic churches. During renovations in the 19th century 150 skeletons were uncovered. Although thought to have been the victims of a battle there is no documented evidence to suggest a battle ever took place. Strange but true. To view audio-visual clips from all over Scotland and to send free video postcards please feel free to visit My Website
Wester Ross in the north west Highlands is an area famous for its rugged landscape, spectacular mountains, picturesque coastal villages and scenic lochs. Much of it remains unspoilt and there are always opportunities for seeing nature at its best. I went to a dark moist rainforest gully at Moonee feeling sure it would reveal a vast array of fungi. Just goes to show you can never tell. Apart from quite a few leechs and ticks this was the only single specimen I could find (still awaiting my field goide for identifications). With the devastation of my favorite fox location, I have some limited options for local wildlife in the Fall. When in doubt look for coyotes, I always say. I was out at Crown Hill Park (my local dog walking park) the other day close to sunset, and as we turned a corner on the trail, we almost ran into a coyote. He was about 20ft away, but because the grass is so high, neither of us noticed the other until we turned the corner. The coyote was pretty calm (as they always are when I don’t have my camera), and we watched each other for a minute or so. He stretched, yawned, and eventually loped into a big field, quickly disappearing from sight. This morning I was out with the rising sun, with camera. I tried the Wildlife Sanctuary in the park first and found nothing. I was about to give up, but on the way back to the car noticed this coyote in the open field to the east I trotted down the trail to the south in hope of having him walk in my direction as he hunted the field. He didn’t get as close as I’d hoped (this is cropped by about 50%), but I’ll be out tomorrow morning and hopefully find a better hiding spot. They can be tough to spot out in an open field as they blend in so well with the environment. They can almost magically disappear at times too.
