I seemed to identify with her, and they were the first group I remember loving….other songs I loved from The Seekers which would take me into a beautiful place, “I’ll Never Find Another You”, “A World of Our Own”, “The Carnival Is Over”, “Morningtown Ride”, “Georgy Girl” ),and “Emerald City” Turn! I was going to leave ‘Seasons’ open to your own interpretation, but painting this pic brought back memories of ‘The Seekers’ singing ‘There is a Season….turn, turn, turn…’. If you look closely, you can see the handwritten bible verse in tiny writing around the heads of the three :D Instead of leaving it open for interpretation, as I’m submitting this to The Healing Journey forum for a music/art competition, I will try to explain what the image depicts. This is my family and I am the hands, although the hands also represent God. The boat is a metaphor for our journey through life, and the waters are somewhat turbulent beneath, my family is being supported by myself at great cost sometimes to me personally and God is also supporting…if you like, imagine it is God’s hands super-imposed over my hands, so that I have strength to do what I am called to do, imparting a protective and nurturing boundary around my beautiful family…..making home a sanctuary, and a safe place, it is a labour of love and the weight of carrying and nurturing can be extremely heavy sometimes, but also very rewarding. There is my daughter, my son, and my husband in the boat…and the symbol of the greek cross on the vessel indicates that my family belong to Christ, and we will be Conquerors in this life and in the next, as we pass through all of life’s testing and difficulty, we will be made stronger and have our characters’ hewn and shaped, and wisdom will come as a result. Bonded together through adversity, trial, separation and togetherness, we will learn how to work together as a team to achieve harmony, joy and satisfaction…we will support one another when life’s journey becomes all too hard and we want to give up…then there will be one of us to support the one who is down….and this will be reciprocated later when the other is down….. instead of destroying one another, we will build each other up, and make each other stronger for the fight, for the journey….we will encourage one another all the more when we are failing and losing sight of our goals….we will not give up on one another…and even if the world is not interested in us, we will be interested in one another, and remember one another in prayer and thought and spirit and heart. We will cheer one another one to be courageous and to persevere, no matter life’s challenges. And through each of the seasons of life, birth, death, life, healing, laughing, dancing, moving, scattering, gathering, giving up, giving voice, mending, loving, hating, mourning…..we will stick together and support one another. The symbol is The Greek Cross which is complemented with the first and last letters of the Greek name for Jesus (IC), the first and last letters of the Greek word for Christ (XC) and the Greek word for Conqueror (NIKA). Being the (current) most popular piece of art on RB, this will obviously get thousands of views…so I want to use this little space to share with you all the most important thing I know about landscape photography… I read it in a blog by Marc Adamus…. and it is… That you will take the best photos in places you are familiar with. I have found this to be 9000% true. I’ve probably shot 100+ sunsets on this beach and all my best photos are from this beach. This was a 7 minute exposure taken at 11:47 midnight. I had shot this fence a lot and knew when(tide) and how( comp) it looked the best. I noticed that the clouds were coming over Cape Town and thought that a long enough exposure would make it look like the clouds were exploding from the lights of Cape Town. I set up my tripod, composed the shot and took some ISO1600 F4 shots to get an idea of what exposure time will be necessary. It needed to be longer than 5 mins to get the right look from the clouds, but not much longer because the peak waves got to the tripods legs and could ruin the photo. I tried over and over…took about an hour, and in the end it was 436 seconds, F9, ISO200. The Original is brown and purple…I colored the photo using WB settings from the RAW tool…. Once again. This isn’t sunset, it’s Cape Town, South Africa, about 50km across the bay….taken from Strand at midnight. Those lights to the left is Simon’s Town. All proceeds from sales of this photo will go to the art for aid group….so please buy people…very generous considering that I’m a poor student. And this proves beyond a doubt that the photographer makes the photo and not the camera… Taken with a EOS 400D (rebel xti), kit 18-55mm lens and a circular polarizer filter…..

When the conditions are right where I live we experience the wonderful phenomena of sea fog. The first one I experienced was when I was “in between” cameras. I was devastated! I have been hoping ever since that we would get another one… I peered out the window today while I was on the phone and saw that today was the day! I had to make my apologies to my friend on the phone – a girl has to get her priorities right – and happily spent the next two hours snapping, with my young boys as my photography assistants. The title of this piece is inspired by one of my favourite scenes in Lord of the Rings. Gandalf the mighty wizard gives his life to ensure the freedom of his friends… and so my friend today gave to me the same gift of freedom as I hastily hung up the phone to explore my sea fog.

Last light again, looking South from the Causeway at Victor Harbor along the Esplanade across the ocean. Quite dark and brooding but available lighting was troublesome here. Canon 400D, HDR and adapted in Photomatix 2.5. Best Viewed large.

The last remains of the old Port Willunga jetty, South Australia. Port Willunga Beach was recently named as the only Australian location in ‘Travel and Leisure’ magazine – hip travel list of emerging destinations. Sunrise at Kingscote Kangaroo Island, over jetty remains along the foreshore. Nature, the waves and weather slowly eroding the last reminders of days past. The site can be located opposite the Hospital heading towards Reeves Point at Kingscote. HDR using photomatix. Canon 400D with polarising filter.

A bit of sunrise light over the West Maui Mountains and Lanai and a powerful sea ebbing and flowing over the rugged lava rock off the coast of Kihei. The way the ocean seemed to fold before me as I stood on rock had me in awe of the beauty of nature

It fascinates me how creation myths and evolutionary thought seem to converge around the possibility of a spark such as this igniting life. / Taken off the “Balcony” – a beautiful section of coastal cliffs in Royal National Park just south of Sydney Australia during a spectacular storm. I’ve shot about half a dozen storms here this year. The others all drifted out to sea which made them nice and safe and easy to photo so I got lulled into a false sense of security with this one. It decided to head straight up to where I was photographing and at one stage I had to hide under a rock overhang with bolts going off all around – deeply scary but wouldn’t have missed it for anything – a magic night of biblical proportions I can tell you and one I’ll never forget. Definitely worth clicking on the photo to see it large. Part of the Raging Stillness series this is a blend of 10 X 30 second exposures taken as part of a series of 110 sequential images during a particularly lovely night storm we had a little while ago. You’re looking at 5minutes of the storm at its height. Couldn’t resist another visit to Bell’s Beach at dawn this morning to have another crack at the huge surf – and I wasn’t disappointed! It was still powering away. / No HDR tweaking – just some levels adjustment and slight colour correction. Mother Nature did the rest. / Nikon D300 with 70-200 1:2.8G lens and 1.7x extender. /

Carved By Nature’s Wrath / The 12 Apostles, Victoria Following a day of torrential rain and gale force winds, the sun shone momentarily, lighting up the moody sky, before plunging the rugged coastline into complete darkness. As night falls, a solitary waterfall is all that remains of the passing storms, returning the much needed rain to the swollen seas of the shipwreck coast. I am occasionally asked how I start the crazy pics :) This is my concept sketch for “Sea Creature” / The good-natured sea creature gazes benignly at the nervous Grinners as they swim past, in their usual backwards style. The poison blisters on the Grinners’ backs were fully inflated, as though they expected trouble. Observers in the underwater viewing deck, were making notes. Temperatures had risen alarmingly in the Nglishoop sea and creatures like the Blister-bodied Grinners were stressed as a result of these changes and their response was to remain in defence mode. This was costing them valuable energy though, as it was usually reserved for short fight or flight occasions. They were aware, in their remarkably evolved brains, that something was not right, but nothing in their evolutionary coding had prepared them for anything like this. These brightly coloured underwater imps, were a critical part of the reef biome and the researchers were worried. Although they were terrestrial beings, the observers knew that their lives were inextricably bound to events that occurred in this underwater world. Time was running out…
