Something different for me. I have recently been spending some time teaching myself the art of pattern creation with Illustrator and this is one of my favorites so far. see also Starflower and Fields / I’ve been thinking of writing a quick tutorial on the creation of this one as it is so simple. Another pattern I created while teaching myself how best to use Illustrator to create seamless tiles. See also Reggtro and Starflower This one was used to figure out what I can and can’t get away with. / This one is also interesting because I was experimenting with using Illustrators symbols. / The advantage being that once I have my tile repeating using a symbol(s) all I need to do to update the pattern is update the symbol and the changes made will propagate throughout. You can set up a similar technique in Photoshop by using smart layers. /

My latest pattern. I had great fun creating all the different cat-like creatures for this piece. You will notice that the cats start repeating before the colours do. This is because I first made a simple B&W outline version which I then tiled before colouring. This repeating colour version is made up of a 5×4 grid of the B&W version. I am currently finishing off a similar pattern made up of bear-like creatures and have many more ideas to visualize before this series if finished. I will probably upload my B&W version at some point as well as some other coloured ones. Selection of açi biber (chilli peppers) arranged by colour. The idea came to me after calling one of my flower photographs a ‘colour wheel’ ....strange the way inspiration takes you! In Turkey these frey little gems are dried to make ‘pul biber’ which is sprinked on food/soup, nibbled as a dried pepper with bbq type meals, ground to a paste for addition to casseroles or pickled as a side dish. Whatever way you eat them they are seriously addictive and not for the faint hearted. / Chili pepper (chilli pepper, chilli, chili, chile) is the fruit of the plants from the genus Capsicum, members of the nightshade family, Solanaceae. Botany considers the plant a berry bush. Though chilis may be thought of as a vegetable, their culinary use is generally as a spice. It is the fruit that is usually harvested. Chili peppers and their cultivars originate in the Americas; they are now grown around the world because they are widely used as spices or vegetables in cuisine, and as medicine. Chili Salsa 2 14 oz cans whole tomatoes, with juice / 2-4 jchilli peppers (depending on how hot you like it) / 2-3 Tbs. cilantro/coriander leaves (fresh) / 4 green onions, chopped / 2 cloves garlic Boil peppersin water until they turn color and soften (about 7-10 / minutes.) / Slice off stems, cut in pieces and place in blender or food processor. Add cilantro leaves, onions and garlic to blender and “chop” until fine. Add 2 cans whole tomatoes (with juice) to blender and blend for 5-10 seconds (more or less, depending on how chunky or smooth you want the salsa.) Salsa will keep at least a week if refrigerated. Top on tacos, chips, crackers, bread, or whatever you like.
