“Seabird In Flight” is about the form of a bird’s airborne movement in relationship with the harmonious contours of the overall landscape. The bird itself becomes a natural part of the world that it resides in. . . This is the actual shape of the canvas This is where the entire shape of the canvas itself becomes an integral part of the overall theme. The canvas is tapered to give the illusion that the top of the canvas is leaning back and the bottom is protruding forward towards the viewer. / The blue represents both the waves of the ocean and the point where the horizon line of the ocean and sky meet. / The seagull itself is reduced down to its barest essential shape and color. With one wing up and one wing down representing the seagull’s constant wing movement as it seems to hover above the seascape. The surf works at all tide stages but mid to high tend to have an edge. It is the only beach in the area that benefits from some protection from the South/Southwesterly winds, thanks to Baggy Point headland. Peaks are scattered all along its length. It has a fairly slow waves which are suitable for beginners. The sandy beach has some rocky outcrops which provide paddling pools.

I was amused to see this seagull on the windsurfer board. It looked as though it knew it could hitch a ride! But we didn’t see a windsurf sail or the windsurfer! Taken near Port d’Andratx in the south-west of Mallorca. We were on a five-hour cruise around the bays and to Sa Dragonera, an island which is also a Nature Reserve. As we were anchored there, we were able to watch the fish in the clear waters – wonderful! Taken using my Olympus SP550UZ.

In the middle of Depoe Bay, Oregon, USA on Hwy 101, there is a terrific spot to stand and watch the waves. When the water is rough, sometimes you might even get hit with spray from the waves crashing against the rocks and and the water bursting through that big hole in the rocks below. This day the waves were rough and the seagulls were right down there in it all. It looks like they would get swept away! Used a Panasonic Lumix DMC FZ18
Taken down at Sandridge beach, on Port Phillip Bay, Victoria, Australia.
