  • “Blow hole” is part of a series (acryllic and ink on paper) I did for a book of my paintings combined with humorous animal poetry (from various authors) called “Het stapelschaap en andere dierengedichten” ISBN-10 90 77408 27 4.

  • San Ignacio Lagoon is one of the best places in the world to see Gray whales and their calves up close. During the calving season you can go out into the lagoon in a small boat (called a panga), and after a short wait, the whale mum and calf will come up to you. They (mainly the calf) love to rub themselves against the boats and also to be scratched! You really get a close up look into their eyes! Then, just when you start to feel at one with each them, they blow salt water in your face and all over your camera! But it’s worth it!!! / / (San Ignacio Lagoon – Baja California) / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / /

  • This is what a Orca Whale (Killer Whale) looks like in the wild in the Bering Sea, Alaska. I fish on a commercial fishing vessel that offloads it’s product in the Port of Dutch Harbor, Alaska. I have seen the Orca’s for 20 years now and it is still a thrill to see them and hear them inside of the boat. Hope you enjoy!!

  • This is a shot of an Orca Whale (Killer Whale) that I captured while working on a commercial fishing vessel in the Bering Sea, Alaska.

  • Killer Whales painted in water colour. From my Wildlife Series.

  • We were fishing offshore of Amelia Island, Florida. When our Captain spotted this humpback whale and her calf feeding along the coast. He almost jumped out of his skin. Apparently it is not unheard of to see whales along there. But quite unusual to see one with a calf and feeding. He brought his boat as close as he dared to so we could get a picture. • Andenes, Norway / summer 2007 / I took many photos but I think this one is the best considering the fact that, during the three hours of the trip, I wasn’ t very well on the boat….!!!

  • A rainbow was created when humpback whales exhaled one sunny late Fall mid-afternoon. Combine the words rainbow and whale blow and one gets a ‘rainblow.’ SE Alaska, USA November 2, 2009 Canon 50D, Canon 100-400mm lens, shutter 1/500, f’/9.0, ISO 400.

  • Hanging humpback whale blows in a remote fjord in SE Alaska appear similar to a Yellowstone National Park (USA) geyser basin. Cold air plus calm conditions make for a perfect combination to create these hanging blows. A large group of eight or more feeding humpback whales cruised near our boat about an hour and a half after dawn. After several deep breaths, the whales sounded toward the depths and abundant krill with a show of tail flukes. Then, just as phantoms, they were gone. SE Alaska, USA October 31, 2009 Canon 50D, Canon 100-400mm lens, shutter 1/800, f/10.0, ISO 400
