The maximum time that an average person could survive in the English Channel in winter without protective clothing….............a typical “grey” day at Christchurch Bay, UK, and at this time of the year.

The breaking clouds allow the naval base on the eastern bank of the loch to bask in sunlight, whilst the west remains in shadow.
Pillars that once held a pier and were later used to secure the shark net at Shorncliffe, Moreton Bay Marine Park. The shark net has long gone, despite the fact that the local council has revamped this area to attract more visitors and consequently, swimmers. Viewed from Liberty Island on a dull and rainy day, you can still make out the skyscrapers on the Manhattan shoreline even through the mist and haze, without the visual aid. The Binoculars in the foreground and the pier lead your eye towards the skyline. Converted to Black & White from the original colour image
This idyllic spot yesterday morning was Clachtoll Beach with glorious white sand, indescribably turquoise water and blazing hot sun. Two hours later we, and five other equally stupid friends, were caught out in a torrential downpour, thunder and lightening and were soaked to the skin in seconds! We staggered back to the cars, fighting against a roaring wind and what felt like fire hoses against us and sat in our cars for over 1/2 hour before the storm abated. Then we had a three hour drive home along flooded roads, sitting in wet clothes and with our shoes sloshing water. Now we are trying to dry out the car! /
This a close up of the Marsden Stack in Marsden Bay in South Shields, showing one of the arches which are slowly weakening this stack. The rubble around it is part of the remains of the smaller stack which was connected to this by an arch until 1996. This a wonderfully atmospheric beach. Converting to black white with a film efect
