To fully appreciate, see extra large view here Blackpool Tower shot over an angry sea. One of a sequence that has had no manipulation in colour. This is how the shot came back from the printers…....(loss of) colour due to leaving the film on the dashboard of the car in full sunlight prior to developing. Being pushed off my feet and inbetween squalls of rain and blown seawater I got out of the car and looked along the coast of Achill Island on Irelands west coast. Though not a particularly stormy day for December it was freezing without gloves. The salt in the air was refreshing and the act of taking a photograph though a little difficult was rewarding interaction with this most vibrant and exciting landscape. I love it. Taken in December 2006.

I went down to the Gold Coast Seaway a bit after 12pm…it was an awesome sight. / SE Qld/NE NSW Gales and Rain (Coral Sea Low) 29 Dec – 2 Jan

Stormy wather in Baltic sea.
An empty pier just before last light. This was taken in Saltburn By The Sea, Cleveland, England.
Raasay and the Inner Sound from An Cruinn-leum on the Applecross peninsula, Scotland, as a storm approaches the mainland over an ever more angry sea from Skye and Raasay. The beach had not a soul on it, and few footprints – had it been warmer, I would have gone down to the waterside and taken a second shot of this…....I’m glad I didnt, as it stayed for hours when it arrived. FOR FULL EFFECT, PLEASE TAKE THE TIME TO VIEW ENLARGED Ta.

This shot was taken at Xghajra, the small sea-side village where I live in Malta. After a whole week of stormy weather the wind finally subdued calming the sea in the process. One could now venture out for a walk by the sea-shore keeping of course at a safe distance. Cameras are not recommended by the sea in stormy weather because of the sea-spray which could seriously damage the delicate electronics or the camera lense. / 3 Copies of a single hand-held shot taken with an Olympus E-volt E-330 DSLR set on Manual mode, processed at 1/3 EV stops and merged together with the original in Photomatix Pro 3
Well for anyone wondering what an official storm in the Bering Sea, Alaska looks like this would be it. It was blowing a steady 80 Knots the day I captured this off of the commercial fishing vessel that I work on in the Bering Sea. Hope you enjoy!!
sometimes the best sunrises to be seen are on mornings when the sky is just seething with the promise of storms all day… like here when I braved the wretched weather and was rewarded with a few moments of true golden glory as the sun rose into the heavy cloud mass …. interestingly as the sun rose the sky just got darker and darker and as the storms out to sea got closer and closer I couldn’t bring myself to leave the vantage point I had. I ended up taking a whole series of quite amazing shots in sequence before the rain hit and I had to make a dash for shelter. And as it’s a grey rainy day here again I’m going to post a few of those shots today starting with this one…. / . /
the storm out to sea is getting closer and closer and as the sun rises the morning gets darker and darker…. still I am unable to make myself leave my vantage point on the cliff top as it’s all just too dramatic and exciting and the rain is still a few minutes off so I stay and revel in the mesmerizing beauty of the morning….the little outpost of rock you can see down in the left hand corner is actually a huge cliff face which can also be seen in this image called fishing fools / . /
taken in Thailand November 2008. some pretty hefty weather came in pretty quick. thankfully, this little longtail boat was moving just a little quicker. view large for full effect.
