This morning was a gorgeous morning to be up and about…. 5AM and I was wondering the rocks of North Narrabeen in just a T-shirt. Not a cloud in the sky, not a puff of wind, hardly a swell in sight. Not the best conditions for seascape photography, but a lovely morning to be up and about enjoying the Spring weather. Did manage to take this photo of North Narrabeen Rock Pool. Love the old textured planks around the pool.

A tranquil sunrise at Wattamolla, Royal National Park just south of Sydney. / People have asked me how I got the radiant effect from the sun. Simple – just pointed the camera at it lol. The flare comes from the sun’s’ rays hitting the lens at nearly 90 degrees and then the blades of the aperture diaphragm inside the camera splitting it up. Least that’s what I’ve been told so if anyone has a better explanation I’d love to hear it. If you like this one you might like to check out a bigger Radiance:

Perhaps my favorite stretch of sand on Maui is this. Po’olenalena Beach is where I generally go to make images of hula dancers, and find quiet moments. Po’olenalena is “over the rocks” and so most tourists cannot find it. This image is layered from 5 exposures, creating a High Dynamic Range effect.
