Southern Gannets in close to the rocks feeding on cuttlefish and squid. The image is a composite all shot within 30 minutes. It is an initial long exposure with a wide angle lens. The birds were then shot at the same location in the same session with a telephoto lens and “dropped in” during post processing.
Some of the wild surf at Bells Beach and Winki Pop, created as a result of the strong, gale force winds during the previous day.

Been quite stormy over the last 40 hours, the beach entirely disappeared and the waves can be heard as I type. As the swell pushes and pulls the water over the rock shelves, a small blowhole sucks in the sea water, ready to spit it out again and in the distance, the waves crash creating plenty of spray while the sun sets at Spray Point. “And when the day arrives I’ll become the sky and I’ll become the sea and the sea will come to kiss me for I am going home. Nothing can stop me now.”’ Trent Reznor This image is a tribute to an old friend, Hilton Matthews, who so sadly died earlier this year. It is a gift for his wife, and my closest friend, Sarah. Hilton was a well known sailor on the Isle of Wight, and was one of the true characters of the Fishbourne Sailing Club. He weathered many storms during his life. He would have loved this one! The boat in the image is one which Hilton helped rescue when it ran aground on the rocks. The sky and the seas have been painted, using a variety of brushes in Photoshop CS4.
