The life (for lack of a better word) of a reaper is not the casual, carefree existence you might imagine… It’s an eternally grave task, working your fingers to the bone and you can never, ever be late. “Death Takes a Holiday”? Pfyeah, right. This is one job where you never want to let the work pile up. There are days when you can feel it deep in your bones, and you just have to dig your way to the surface or the job will bury you. And when that golden opportunity presents itself it’s as if you wake from a dream, and finally you reap some well urned rest.

Done in pen & pencil. i wanted to add words, but thought it might ruin the picture. i wanted Father Grim Reaper tell his daughter Azmerelda that Rex the Dog’s ear is falling off, & she needs to resew it back on . And Azmerelda says “Yes, Father”. Anyway, the sewing jobs on Rex, the Cat Sparky & Glomp the Rat aren’t very clear, Azmerelda sews ears on them since they are skeletons they would not normally have ears

/ I was tired of seeing really dark Grim Reaper images that were predominantly black. The Reeper is neither good nor evil, he just is; a keeper of the balance Death as a sentient entity is a concept that has existed in many societies since the beginning of history. In English, death is often given the name the “Grim Reaper” and from the 15th century onwards came to be shown as a skeletal figure carrying a large scythe and clothed in a black cloak with a hood. It is also given the name of the Angel of Death In some cases, the Grim Reaper is able to actually cause the victim’s death, leading to tales that he can be bribed, tricked, or outwitted in order to retain one’s life. Other beliefs hold that the Spectre of Death is only a psychopomp, serving only to sever the last tie from the soul to the body and guide the deceased to the next world and having no control over the fact of their death. In many languages Death is personified in male form (English including), while in others it is perceived as a female character. An exellent and humerous portreyal of Death or Lady Death can be seen in Terry Pratchetts Disk world series. Mainly the HOGSFATHER and SOUL MUSIC.
