I wonder when the last time this old car was more than just yard art.

For the longest time I dreamed of a wild adventure in Italy. In April 2008 that dream became an extraordinary reality. We arrived in Rome, jetlagged after two very long flights from Australia. So we jumped on the open air Tourist bus to take a look around. It wasn’t long before we got tired of seeing the picture postcard tourist sites and jumped off to go exploring the back streets of Rome on foot. Down one of the historic side streets we found a beautiful secret garden. At first we weren’t sure if it was a private sanctuary or business entity as it was so quiet. In the corner under a magnificent tree, a talented craftsman quietly sculpted his wares. So captivated by his work, he never raised his head to acknowledge us and he never spoke a word. So we tentatively explored his garden, tip toeing around the sculptures trying not to disturb the master at work. This photo is of the gate that initially captured our attention and filled our imagination with stories of oracles and gateways to other worlds. The heightened blue tones adding a magical quality to the scene. In my imagination, this sculpture is a great oracle who peers into your heart to see where the truth lies. If you pass his test, the gates magically open into the wonderous world of il giardino segreto – the Secret Garden. (c) sooz2008
This began as a photo of an actual “Secret Garden” my husband and I found on one of our “Date Days”, there were wood sculptures of insects and many levels of an array of beautiful flowers. This dragonfly sculpture stood watch above the garden and I played with many flower photos and a few fairies to greate the magic that unleashes within my mind’s eye…and voila ;) “In my garden there is a large place for sentiment, my garden of flowers is also my garden of thoughts and dreams. The thoughts grow as freely as flowers, and the dreams are as beautiful.” Abram L. Urban / /
We are surrounded by them.
Actually, its a sculpture made from waste and its at The Eden Project! However, there is a lesson in it for all of us… that our waste will devour us all one day unless we learn to live more frugally. How to do this is something I don’t have all the answers to, but unless we all try together then our Garden of Eden will become a wasteland. I decided some Photoshop work would make the monster more frightening… hope I succeeded!

Collage of photos I took during a romantic getaway at the Schlosshotel Buhlerhohe in Germany’s Black Forest. We had an incredible time there with gourmet room service, wonderful spa treatments and beautiful gardens to stroll through. It was a great weekend and definitely a Happy Place for both of us.
In 1999 the Irish National Stud created a commemorative garden to St. Fiachra, Patron Saint of Gardeners, to celebrate the Millennium. The garden seeks to capture the power of the Irish landscape in it’s rawest state… that of rock and water. The garden is within a natural setting of woodlands, wetlands, lakes and islands. / / MCN:C2F24-D9261-42B22
It’s hollow inside, kids were pretending that was their house, XD hahaha, kinda creepy but cool. / Niki In the Garden” is one of the most spectacular art exhibits, tickles the spirits of the young and young-at-heart. / Much of de Saint Phalle’s art invites you to walk through it, sit on it, or just reach out and touch it—which is why kids particularly love playing with Niki’s art. / Each fiberglass structure is decorated with a dazzling melange of materials. Making the works so colorful are the gazillion beads, baubles, semiprecious stones and cut mirror, all applied mosaic-style. More info here
The inspiring sculpture of Bruno Torfs. The various sculptures throughout the garden seamlessly blend into the surrounding rainforest. If you are ever in Marysville Victoria.

While meandering through city parklands recently looking for something suitable to photograph, I saw this marble memorial in the distance with what appeared to be a life-sized statue adjacent. As I got closer it became apparent that it was no ordinary figure…....it was a magnificently sculptured bronze angel bearing a palm branch and standing on the steps. The building itself did not seem imposing and the sculpture, although the main feature to my way of thinking, seemed like a most effective afterthought. It was a dull day so I returned another time when the light was better and shot it handheld from different angles. That’s my hat on the steps and was deliberately placed to counterbalance the composition and add a visual distraction to the strong prescence of the main subject…....what I now refer to as my ‘Dark Angel’. Some post editing was done to cause a slight colour shift and some vignetting added (it is not hdr tone-mapped). The monument is in Angus Gardens, Adelaide – South Australia, was erected in 1915 and attributed to WR Cotton. It is dedicated to George Fife Angus and John Howard Angus, pioneers, pastoralists and philanthropists.
In Berlin (Germany)... There is a big church at the end, completely lost in the fog….

This statue, named The Genius of Architecture is in West Princes Street Gardens, Edinburgh, Scotland. It shows a crowned woman with two male kilted children at her feet. One shows plans for approval whilst the other kneels to apply mortar to a pillar. It represents the crowning of the theory and practice of Art. Edinburgh Castle can be seen in the background. Designed in 1862 by William Brodie 1815- 1881 (not to be confused with the infamous William Deacon Brodie) the statue was not unveiled until 1891 ten years after the artists’ death. Brodie was a prolific sculptor and is responsible for a number of statues in Edinburgh and Glasgow including James Young Simpson also in West Princes Street Gardens and the bronze statue of Greyfriar’s Bobby outside Greyfriars Kirk.
