  • Oil on Linen / Detail, Portrait of Frederick L. Gregory / Rick Gregory is one of the few granite sculptors in America – I’m not sure more than five artists work in this very tough, formidable rock. California has a good stock of it, especially around Fresno and Yosemite. I thought Rick looked a bit Apollo-ish; I added a fist full of blueprints. We had some very artsy adventures, one at the height of a blinding record-setting rain and wind a few years back on the Central Coast. We drove to Big Sur dodging collapsing cliffs and boulders on Highway One, to tie down twenty-five and thirty foot blocks of Rick’s granite sculpture against the tempest. The best I can say about that thrilling day was that nobody died. Years ago, this expert sailor was on the winning America’s Cup team before hitting dry land in Brazil where he stayed to study rock building with a Japanese master, marry Miss Brazil, and start a family. He’s gone back and forth ever since between Brazil and California, making extraordinary monolithic granite sculptures, many interplaying with water. His work is shown at the Hawthorne Gallery in Big Sur, and installed all over the world in public and private collections.

  • White pencil on A4 black paper. / This is a portrait of one of my awesome lecturers, Stuart Elliott. / He’s taught me a few things about painting and sculpting over the last few years in my arts diploma course. He is currently the solo artist of an exhibition at the Turner gallery, 470 William street, Northbridge, W.A. which is where i picked up a leaflet for the show and was stunned by the photograph on the front by Leon Bird taken in 2003 of Stuart. I didn’t draw it but in the photograph he has one of his strange sculptures in his lap making the image a strange portrait of a strange artist and one of his monster creations.

  • “THE AWAKENING” / Best viewed large. / / “THE AWAKENING” is a 100-foot statue of a giant embedded in the earth, struggling to free himself. It was created by J. Seward Johnson, Jr. and originally installed at Hains Point (East Potomac Park), Washington, D.C. in 1980 for the International Sculpture Conference Exhibition. / / The statue consists of five separate pieces buried in the ground, giving the impression of a panicked giant trying to pull himself to the surface. The left hand and right foot barely protrude, while the bent left leg and knee jut into the air. The 17-foot right arm and hand climb above the observer while the bearded face, with the mouth in mid-scream, struggles to emerge from the surrounding earth. / / Although its National Park Service “temporary permit” had long expired, the statue proved so popular that it remained for 27 years at the southern end of Hains Point, across the Potomac River from Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport. At times, the Potomac River flooded the statue. / / The Awakening at the National Harbor In 2007, the National Park Service announced that the sculpture would be moved to the National Harbor in Prince George’s County, Maryland, just outside the District of Columbia, after the artist, Johnson, sold the statue for $750,000.00. / The sculpture was excavated and removed from Hains Point on February 20, 2008 and is now installed at National Harbor in Maryland. / / For more information, please go to THE AWAKENING /

  • Blossom’s_Photo_Gallery Legerwood Memorial Trees It’s certainly worth a visit to see these amazing carvings. Even though the trees had to be cut down, they are still preserved as a memorial to the fallen soldiers of WWI. On the15th October 1918, a ceremony was held in the railway reserve at Ringarooma Road, Legerwood. 9 trees were planted to honour soldiers killed in World War I. As the names of the fallen were called out, a relative or near relative came forward to hold the tree until it was planted. Douglas Fir – Alan Andrews, / Giant Sequoia -Thomas Edwards, / Deodar – William Hyde, / Giant Sequoia – Robert Jenkins, / Deodar – John McDougall, / Douglas Fir – George Peddle , / Deodar – John Riseley , / and a Weymouth Pine at each end of the avenue for Gallipoli and the Anzacs. In 2001 a report on the condition of the trees showed that they were no longer safe. The community were devastated that their memorials would be lost. In 2004 it was suggested that the stumps be carved into a likeness of each soldier. Eddie Freeman a chainsaw carver, from Ross, was employed by the Legerwood Hall and Reserves Committee to sculpt the masterpieces you see today. / / Canon PowerShot A650 IS Shutter Speed: 1/1000sec / Aperture: F4.0 / ISO: 80

  • William Ricketts lived and worked at Mount Dandenong from 1934 until 1993. His life’s artistic work was transformed by his years of contact with the desert people of the Pitjantjara and Arrente whose indigenous culture inspired his major creative output. He lived at the Sanctuary until his peaceful death at midnight on 10 June 1993, aged ninety-four. His was a lifetime of concern and care for the environment, expressed in his energetic creation of the William Ricketts Sanctuary. The William Ricketts Sanctuary is the realisation of the vision of potter and sculptor William Ricketts who started working on the four hectare property in 1934 and who was still creating sculptures just prior to his death in 1994. Fascinated and inspired by the natural world and the spirituality of the Australian indigenous peoples, amongst whom he lived in Australia’s central deserts, Ricketts created a homage to both in the form of a mystical open-air sculpture park under the magnificent Mountain Ash. Some 92 kiln-fired figures appear to grow out of rocks and from green ferny glades. The extraordinary impact of Ricketts tribute “to the sacredness of beauty and our onus to nurture and protect nature” has made his Sanctuary an international visitor destination. • This is the most important and popular piece of art of the Spanish and Basque famous sculptor Eduardo Chillida. Belongs to an author’s style, a blend of informality, Minimalism and Land Art. It was created in 1977 as a set of three sculptures of steel embedded in the rocks of the sea. They are located on the Ondarreta promenade of Donosti city(Basque Country) where you can see the waves breaking on them. Canon 400D Featured work in Going Coastal group (August 09) /

  • FEATURED in ABSTRACT DIGITALART and WRITING sept 09 THE ANGEL of DEATH / the Milmore Memorial The Milore Memorial was a fumerary commision / from the family of the Boston Sculptor Martin Milmore / (1844-1883) to honour his memory and that of his brother, / Joeseph(1841-1886), The original bronze was erected inForest hills Cemetry,Jamaica Plain,Massachusetts,in 1893, / this marble version was commisioned by the Metropolitan, / The memorial represents the moment when the Angel of Death inturrupts the sculptor’s work, staying the chisel in his / left hand,She also holds a bunch of poppies, symboliaing eternal sleep,The poetic content of the sculptor,as well as French’s successful intergration of real and ideal elements, makes the memorial a profound statement on the creation of art and the cessation of life, I photographed this memorial while viisiting The Metropolitan Museum of Art in Manhattan,I then edited the image in Photoshop playing around in levels and altering the contrast a little,I knew that when i photographed this image that i wanted to add a little more exubereance to the overall look of the image. This is the original image with a slieght contrast adjustment.

  • 24 NOVEMBER – 7 DECEMBER MY SOLO EXHIBITION MY SOLO EXHIBITION WILL BE OPENED IN LITHUANIAN PARLAMENT, VILNIUS OPEN (my exhibition today) I & Sculptor (my exhibition today) Exposition hall (my exhibition today) Duke of sculpture – DANIELIUS SODEIKA / ABOUT MY EXHIBITION The woks exhibited represent the linkup of two artists, a photographer and a sculptor. Such an attempt to blend two spheres of art is really innovative and a bit unexpected. There had been few who were successful in such an attempt. Both authors, blending their art by the means of the photo art, are the winners. Sculpture, as such, is rather a static art, sometimes “performing” in a specific, sometimes artificial, environment. However, the means of the plastic photography, seemingly, make the sculptures movable, dynamic; they make you feel the sculptures are moving. They become alive, start moving and react both to the environment and the views captured by the photographer. I would like the viewers also note the colour solutions of the photos, aimed at the strengthening of the overall impression of the imagery. The original blend and overlapping of two arts let see the impressive plastic metaphors, giving birth to various associations. CLICK PHOTO IF YOU WANT VIEW

  • Embracing and Passionistic. This painting was inspired by me by the sculptorist, Auguste Rodin, his version of “The Kiss” Limited Edition. I call it…”Unforgettable,” because when I saw the live sculptor in Paris, France…I still have not forgotten. Unforgettable, that’s what you are Unforgettable though near or far Like a song of love that clings to me How the thought of you does things to me Never before has someone been more Unforgettable in every way And forever more, that’s how you’ll stay That’s why, darling, it’s incredible That someone so unforgettable Thinks that I am unforgettable too Unforgettable in every way And forever more, that’s how you’ll stay That’s why, darling, it’s incredible That someone so unforgettable Thinks that I am unforgettable too
