I have been back for a long time after “being away for a few days” as mentioned in my last entry… Have been visiting the site many times… sometimes several times a day!!! I have added a photo or two, but have been pretty inactive on that front or with these journal entries… However, I have been adding quite a few comments to many of the fantastic shots that are appearing on RB… keep up the good work everyone. I have a question for RB… have you thought of having a marketable “screen saver” that people can purchase with the option to included selected images… $X for 10 images of choice, $Y for 25 images of choice $Z for 75 etc. Just a thought that offers a wide opportunity for each of us to have the sale of some of our images… what do you and other redbubblers think of this idea!!!

Hey everyone, / Just a couple of queries for those out there….I shoot all my stuff on Fuji Velvia which is just an exceptional film for colour richness, saturation and fine grain – some of the originals look quite spectacular even. Then I scan them and re-size/adjust them to try and match the original which at the time i either have projected or on a light table in front of me. I only want my work online to be equal to that of the originals, I’d hate to think of someone buying my work and it being a misrepresentation of it. / So….the question being…is there any one out here in ‘Bubble-land’ that can put me on to a free monitor/screen colour calibration URL,program or bar chart ? / I have black and white bar scales and everything loooks perfect, so I am essentially just chasing a colour calibration check to verify everything… thanks for any advice or comments, tone :)

Hi All; You probably already know this. Anyhow I know the RB font sizes are a little small for us, ah, mature generation. By accident, I found that if you hold the ctrl and C keys down, and roll your mouse wheel, you can increase/decrease the fonts size displayed on the screen. This really helped me scroll through RB stuff with less eye strain. Unfortunately it doesn’t stay set that way after you exit your browser (I use Firefox), but it’s easy to reset. My browser comes up when I boot up, and stays on all day. You’d think after being in computers for 40 years, I’d already know this, go figure. Hope you can use this. Cheers. G.

Okay, so RB has been wigging out on me lately! What’s the deal-y-y-o? I AM GOING CRAZY!!!!!!!!!!! RB spare me this insanity…. pweese? :o( I have written two posts about this, here and here. And, now this journal to share with you the utter chaos I have been dealing with for the last 2 1/2 days!!! It totally ruined Drawing Day for me!!!! Oh pooh! This problem is not with FireFox or IE, because I tried both and the problem persisted with both. I have been dealing with pages like these the entire time as well as other minor things as stated in the forum posts. Oh, somebody help. OR, I’m gonna go postal! Flames…flames at the…side…of my face…heaving breaths…! Here are some screen shots I took today. The first is FF and the second is IE: /

Paul and I have been working very hard on updating an improving the Disenchanted Photography website since Paul has come aboard and I’m here to tell you that it is almost ready to be launched for the world to see! We are both very excited. There will of course be the standard galleries show casing the work we’ve done and as the time (and jobs) roll in they will be frequently updated along with news and all the ‘goss on what we’re up to. Some of you may have visited the Disenchanted Blog since it’s conception however that will also be moved and Paul and I will both be keeping that active on a very regular basis. We will also be including some desktop wallpapers to help entice people to keep returning to see what they can get for free and eventually we will be selling small packages of them as well as screen savers and tee shirts etc. There’s still a lot in the planning stages, but it’s all coming along very nicely… and we can’t wait to show you all! Until then… we’ll keep you posted.

Photographers with less than 3 years’ professional experience have submitted a series of works and are vying for one of five titles: Best Editorial Photographer; Best Commercial Photographer; Best Art Photographer; People’s Choice Award; and the grand prize, Best Overall Photographer. To best display the finalists’ work , it will be shown in a full cinematic experience (with matching soundtracks) at the Chauvel Cinema in Sydney on Tuesday 1 th July and at ACMI in Melbourne on Thursday 24th July. Canberra will host a screening at M16 on Friday 18th July as part of the Vivid Photographic Festival. Go to the Projections 08 website to see full details of the competition, buy tickets (selling fast), see a teaser of the work etc. My entry was Highly Commended so apparently some of my work will be screened at the after parties, woo! xx

Screengrab saves entire webpages as images. It will save what you can see in the window, the entire page, just a selection, a particular frame… basically it saves webpages as images. It takes screen shots – that is, shots, of web pages. Install the Firefox Add on and in the right corner down you will find a little Screengrab icon, which you just need to click…. And you have saved the Website as a picture…. :) Here you can download Screengrab 0.95 for Firefox! Over the last few months I have been building my portfolio, trying various techniques and photographing different subjects (http://alecrain.redbubble.com/), photos that I was especially proud of I put here on Redbubble (and Flicr) to get some comments and even perhaps to sell few of them. / At one point I even decided to print one or two of the photos on my home printer that was always good to me but to my frustration I could never get it to print the photos I processed correctly. / I always shoot in RAW and then process the photos to my liking, however photos that looked great on my screen (default screen settings for my Toshiba P300 laptop) don’t look so good on the prints- they are way underexposed and HUE and Saturation are off. I decided to calibrate my screen using one (and then many) of the calibration photos I found online. / I printed one using default printer settings and then holding the print next to my screen I tried to adjust contrast, gamma, hue, saturation to my screen best represent the actual print. / Finally after few hours I was happy with the result, I confirmed that all was good by trying other calibration images and good quality photos from National Geographic and so on. All was good But then I rechecked my own photos, to my terror most of them were really bad, nothing what I worked so hard on achieving. / ........... / :-(

Please join special guests Jonathan Ive, Marc Newson, Alice Rawsthorn, and director Gary Hustwit for a special screening and post-film discussion in London at the Chelsea Cinema. Tickets are very limited for this special event. They are only available through the Objectified website, and will go on sale tomorrow, Thursday, February 26 at noon GMT. London Special Screening / Thursday, April 16, 7pm / Curzon Chelsea Cinema / 206 King’s Road / London SW3 5XP / Thursday, February 26 at noon GMT. So this is going to be extremely difficult to get tickets to but I was thinking … if a bunch of us manage to get their paws on some then I think a bit of a London RedBubble Design Appreciation meet up might be in order. Let me know if you’ll be attempting to get tickets …

I get asked all the time how to do this, so I’m going to put it here so it’s faster to answer everyone! =) Hi! No problem! If you have a PC (MAC is different) 1. hit the “prt sc” (or print screen) button. Normally this button is near the scroll or pause or delete buttons…usually 2. Open your photo editing program like photoshop. “Paint” the default program that comes on most PC’s works too. 3. Open a blank document. I usually set mine to 1500×1500 pixels. 4. hit the “CRTL” (or control) button and the “V” button. This is the shortcut for “paste” 5. crop out the extra stuff you don’t need. 6. Save. 7. if you want to use on RB I upload it as a hidden art piece. then you right click. go to properties. copy the URL. paste it into wherever you wish to place it. on redbubble for the image to appear you need to put ”!” on both sides of the url with no space. Now if you have a MAC. Somewhere there is a “grab” function. / go here for the explanation. I hope this works, please let me know if you have any further questions.

/ BRAG TIME! / if you’re in Melbourne, you can go to Federation Square and watch a film called CORAL SEA DREAMING 2, an epic undersea film of magnificent cinematography by Australia’s own Emmy Award-winner David Hannan and music by yours truly, Tania Rose. This film is an extraordinary visual feast, and is probably the last we will see of much of the marine life of the coral reefs, as the reefs around the globe are as we speak becoming extinct :(. David is the world leader of undersea cinematography and provides a lot of footage for marine scientists and their studies. Shot in Hi-Definition, Coral Sea Dreaming 2 is a collection of his best work. It is indeed both an honour and a privilege to be involved in this project, on many levels, not least of which is the fact that this is both a celebration and a tribute to something the Earth is losing with dire consequences. The earth is precious…more precious than ourselves

It’s amazing how a brainstorming session can result in…well, RESULTS! / We threw around an idea to have the CORAL SEA DREAMING 2 film screened at FEDERATION SQUARE in Melbourne…and here it is Cinematography – David Hannan / Music – Tania Rose / Pics by Peter Simon, who also played a big part in the film…thanks Pete / go see it if you’re in Melbourne. It’s free. i think this is a sclaed down cut of the epic film (which is around 90 mins in length), and you can check times on the Federation Square site and if you’d like to buy the soundtrack to the original CORAL SEA DREAMING film by yours truly, you can get that here Thanks for your support throughout the whole project…and beyond :)

Ever wondered what appeared on the home page of Redbubble every time a new theme was chosen? But, like me, didn’t even visit Redbubble because life was far too busy? No problem. Now you can see them any time , even after the next theme has been picked. A BIG thanks goes to Sanne Thijs for her efforts to copy and produce these screen-dumps each time!

It’s the BFI Film Festival, and that means near as I figure it, there’s basically one event per day happening in and around Leicester Square. What, however, is the difference between a “Premiere” and a “Gala Screening” I hear you ask? I was set to find out this, and much more… / Here is (I’m told) every woman’s dream man, Colin Firth. At a gala screening for “A Single Man” – the one that preceded a later Gala Screening for “The Road”. (This is every girl’s dream man? Wow… George Clooney will be crushed) / Obviously, I didn’t swoon. But an unprecendented three (3) girls asked whether I’d email them the photos I’d taken of Colin “Mr Darcy” Firth. Umm… no problem! Here, have some George Clooneys as well! / Academy Award™ winner Ben Kingsley. A more standard and expected zero (0) girls asked whether I’d email them photos taken of him So after that I stood and waited for about an hour for the next Gala Screening. Why? Two reasons : First, the next gala was for “The Road” – starring Viggo Mortensen (The King in “Lord of the Rings The Return of the King”), Guy Pearce (Aussie, and in LA Confidental and Memento) and Charlize Theron (photo taken last year, currently hanging on my wall) The second? Well, because I was standing right next to a cute Philosophy graduate who had coolly and cleverly snuck into the Paparazzi Pen with nothing more than a Canon 350D and agreed to trust me with her credit card to pick up her movie tickets so she didn’t have to risk being discovered (because I’m trustworthy like that). Which is… pretty brazenly awesome. And she and I had a good talk… and she was nice. And it was…. nice. / This is John Hillcoat, the Australian director of the film. The lady with him is not identified by wireimage, but with all due respect (because I really like the character), I’d say she’s gunning for the spitting image of Edna Mode from The Incredibles At this point, things were looking good…. until Paparazzi Pen started filling up, and the cute Philosophy graduate’s attention was suddenly and irrevocably diverted by a blonde-haired, blue-eyed, Polish-accented pro photographer wielding a Canon EOS 1D, who started chatting to her… And … like… damnit!! Honestly, what’s he got that I don’t? (Oh. Right. Every single one of the things I just mentioned. Damn) / “I’m sorry, but I can’t comment on whether Cheap Theatre Tickets are worth it” Actor Jason Isaacs is much more evil playing Lucius Malfoy in the Harry Potter films, where he dislikes Elves, Half-bloods and Polish people. (Or maybe that last one is just me.) / (Foreground, right) Actor Viggo Mortensen (Lord of the Rings, A History of Violence) diligently signs autographs for fans at the gala screening. Another difference between a premiere and a gala screening is that the Red Carpet is narrower, can wind around the outside of a building while cars park behind the cinema, and stars go in one side of the cinema entrance while ‘normos’ can go in via another one. / Aragorn! I noted that he was signing everyone’s autographs very cheerfully, so I opportunistically grabbed his autograph too. (What?... it’s not like I was trying to (or able to) impress some girl anymore by this stage!) Let me wallow in my geekhood. Stop judging. You weren’t there, man!! / Oh, and note to self – do not ever stand directly alongside a wall of paparazzi. Side-on? Yes. Behind? Maybe. But alongside them gives you weird angles and confuses camera sensors and you have to be really, really lucky to extract a single interesting shot Like here, where Viggo looks demonic, the lady next to him has seen something even scarier than Viggo, while the third lady? Eh… just calmly calling somebody. A priest perhaps. So there you go. Charlize Theron didn’t show up. Still… the good news is : I already have photos from the next premiere ready to load. It’s for a small film from Kiwi director Jane Campion where, typically, the cute girl (Abbie Cornish, the actress in the film) didn’t show. (No, and the other one with a Canon 350D didn’t show either). #sigh#. I’ll try to recover for the next journal! Until then! The archive of movie premieres Featuring, most recently: / The Men Who Stare At Goats – Clooney! Again! / The Fantastic Mr Fox – Clooney! Murray! ... Cindy Crawford?? / The Imaginarium of Dr Parnassus – Gilliam! Cole! Garfield!? / Creation – Bettany: Yes! Connelly: No!) / Inglourious Basterds – Tarantino! Kruger! But not Pitt! Finally, here’s an easy link to my ‘Movie Premieres Highlights’ Calendar! /

On the ‘I may be getting seriously obsessed with these things’ front, I present the fourth premiere in four working days! And on the ‘I may not be entirely beyond hope’ front, I’ll admit that the day after this one, the needs of the laundry outweighed the possibility of a fifth premiere or gala screening in five working days… This film had several things going for it – I was there, the female cast-members outnumbered the male and it got me out of work a whole ten (10) minutes early! / “An Education”. I’ll be honest and say I have no idea what it’s about. And I went to university… / The New Jedi Order. It’s not just for seriously overweight and underweight guys anymore… (this is Antonia Campbell-Hughes, who was also at yesterday’s Bright Star premiere) / Paparazzi flashes are a tricky prospect for any camera to fight against – especially when shooting into them. For now, I’ve settled on fast shutter speeds and a bit of fervent hoping. / Sometimes you just don’t have a direct view of what’s going on on the red carpet, no matter how long you’ve been waiting. Time to get creative, then… / She’s pretty. What’s more, when wireimage identified her as ‘Beth Rowley’, the name sounded very familiar. And indeed, I’d photographed her at V-Festival last year. Oddly, there she looked young enough, but here she looks about three or four years younger and it’s one year on! / If you’re a pretty lady at a premiere, I’ll generally feel inclined to not just check up on wireimage, but even wikipedia and try to identify you (just… because). But in this case… eh. Feel free to play at home! I’m going to say… Dizzee Rascal. / I’m not sure who she is, but I’ll pay the expression! Yellow Cap Guy update – he wasn’t present at this one as far as I could tell. It was a cold evening and it threatened to rain, but surely it would take more than that to keep him away? / Actress Emma Thompson has had three Academy Award™ nominations – and a win (Best Actress, Howard’s End, 1992), AND she plays the giddy Professor Trelawney in the Harry Potter films. So she’s doing okay! / Actually, I think she’s doing better than okay 8) / Dominic Cooper. As in… that guy. He’s clean-shaven on the poster (if that’s him on the poster).... and that’s pretty much all I know. / You’re young, beautiful, have a role in no less than three wide-release films in 2009 and have several lined up next year, and now you’re on a red carpet at a London Film Premiere during BFI Film Festival for a film where people are calling your performance Oscar-worthy. So to summarise, right now you’re feeling fairly…. down? (I’ll be honest… I don’t really understand girls…) / “There, there… rottentomatoes.com might only give it an aggregated 90% positive critics review, but that doesn’t mean the movie is all bad” Actress Carey Mulligan gets consoled (?) on the red carpet. / The dynamic trio posed in front of the wall o’paps for a fair while. And despite a staggering failure rate of shots taken while competing with Paparazzi flashes going off, I had several shots that turned out okay. This one, however, was the most interesting! So… that’s another premiere, then. I still take ONE PHOTO PER DAY, mind you (meaning : more than one, generally – but I will then select one, and not always from film premieres). I should probably get round to posting the latest bunch at some point… But… until next time! My Archive of Movie Premiers And the list of some of the more recent ones: / Bright Star – Jane Campion! Boris Johnson! / The Road – Firth! Mortensen! / The Men Who Stare At Goats – Clooney! Again! / The Fantastic Mr Fox – Clooney! Murray! ... Cindy Crawford?? / The Imaginarium of Dr Parnassus – Gilliam! Cole! Garfield!? / Inglourious Basterds – Tarantino! Kruger! But not Pitt! And finally, here’s an easy link to my ‘Movie Premieres Highlights’ Calendar which is so awesome I might yet buy one for myself! /

So I wanted to make it easier for some of you that don’t know how to do this first if you are on windows there is a comand that you can use to copy the whole screen and whatever is on it, you want to press Ctrl+Alt+PrtSc “Print Screen Button” located at top of your key board when you press those keys it should copy the screen than you can paste it into a blank page in photoshop or another graphics program by pressing Ctrl+V or right click paste and save it than you can upload it to a free picture hosting site like imageshack.us and you can post on red bubble by putting the Direct link in between exclamation points !like this!, And if you are on a Mac there is a built in program that takes snapshots you can find it in the Aplication/Utilities than you simply press grab at the top and you can choose the size of the screen or full screen and it will ask you to save it after you click close. Hope that helps!:))) Ogfx

The lovely blue screen of death as they call it, is not what I intended to see on my pc this morning. I was nicely working in my wildflowers group when I heard a click, then a screen of the lovely shade of blue that I always feared. The pc is 5 years old and was ready for being replaced, but I pushed it too far I guess. The recovery disc did not get me back up and running even in safe mode. I am no expert on these things, so I best leave it alone for someone who knows what they are doing. Thank goodness I have the laptop which I do not like working on, but it will suffice. My RB folders and my personal website folders are on the HD on the pc, so I have no work to offer at the moment. So, hopefully this can be recovered. / Does anyone have an idea of what to do other than cost me to take it in for repair, or at least get my files off.
