This photo of a silhouetted cross against a beautiful sunset was taken in Windsor, Nova Scotia, Canada right across the street from my house. My then girlfriend, now wife pointed out the cross, so I got down to ground level and took the shot. When I got my Canon PowerShot A640 in the early Summer of 2007 I started taking various shots in the backyard. This image of a purple Iris was one of the first macro shots I had ever taken, and definitely one of my most popular images here on RedBubble. Taken on a very cold day at White Point Beach, Nova Scotia Canada. My then Fiancee now wife wrote this in the wet sand, and I took the shot. I thought this might make a nice Valentine’s Day card. This image has taken on new meaning for me now. My Mother had been in the hospital for a little over a week. We knew she was on her deathbed. She had suffered for many years with a number of serious chronic health issues, the most debilitating being COPD – a chronic lung disease which had her housebound and connected to oxygen 24-7. Well this morning (Feb. 15, 2009) she passed away peacefully. The reason this image is special to me now is that it was featured on the Homepage here on RedBubble just hours before she passed away. In my heart I feel that she had something to do with it. This was her way of telling me she loves me for one last time since this image prominently features the words “I LOVE YOU” in the sand. This image was created in Photoshop starting from a photo I took of a friend playing a guitar. Using multiple layers I created the background starting with a color filled layer. I created the whirlpool effect by adding clouds and then applying various filters. Duplicating the layer and selecting and removing a color from the layer I was able to then apply various layer styles including bevel and emboss. This was taken on a very foggy day at Long Cove near West Pennant, Nova Scotia, Canada. / / It was named “Cat Fish Blues” because it looks like the boat had jumped out of the water, and because of the feeling of sadness or loneliness it invoked in me. / / The image was originally shot in color, but due to the thick fog the color was quite muted, so I converted it to black and white using Photoshop, and then added a bit of texture via filters to give it a more vintage feel. / / This is available as any of the available product from Red Bubble and would be suitable as a framed print. / / Buying this print as a gift? This is an image of my brother-in-law’s dog, Buzz, blended into a sunset over Long Cove only about a half a mile away from his home in West Pennant, Nova Scotia, Canada. Buzz is a Springer Spaniel and a sweetheart of a dog. Everyone loves Buzz. For those who may be curious, Buzz is still alive and kickin’! Each image was on it’s own layer and were blended together through opacity changes, and varying the blend modes. The old version had a lot of post production that may have been too much.
