Raasay and the Inner Sound from An Cruinn-leum on the Applecross peninsula, Scotland, as a storm approaches the mainland over an ever more angry sea from Skye and Raasay. The beach had not a soul on it, and few footprints – had it been warmer, I would have gone down to the waterside and taken a second shot of this…....I’m glad I didnt, as it stayed for hours when it arrived. FOR FULL EFFECT, PLEASE TAKE THE TIME TO VIEW ENLARGED Ta.

Another dawn shot from a series I shot from the East Beach in Lossiemouth, Moray, Scotland. The Bin of Cullen, which is further down the East coast, can be seen in the distance. With the tide the day now recedes / Stealing the light less the moon be jealous / Leaving behind like jewelled beads / A gem splashed beach, to the eye so precious Great Cullins proud no longer stand / Painted by the sun so bright / But darkened now like Elgol’s land / The sea alone now owns this right But come the dawn, this scene re-born / Again the Cullins grand will rise / Like the sky by light soon torn / They guard my treasure til the day’s demise

The Highlands and Islands of Scotland are depicted in Scott’s atmospheric and vibrant oils. / JAN: The Plane to Barra lands on the beach just beyond this croft. / FEB: This Sky study focuses on the effects of afterglow at sunset across the Western isles. / MAR: Crinan, Postcard picturesque harbour town located at the end of the Crinan Canal. My wife and I stayed at the Crinan Hotel owned by Scottish landscape artist Frances MacDonald. / APR: Looking West in the evening, cloud cover can become backlit and play tricks with perceived colour. / MAY: This place on the East coast of Barra allowed me a great opportunity to play with cool/warm colour contrasts and design-led mark making. / JUN: This loch (in the shape of the map of Scotland) I’ve painted many times. I pass it on trips to Skye and it looks different every time. / JUL: Sometimes what you want to say with colour can be restricted by reality for a representational painter… not here. This accurately depicts a recognisable landscape on Barra, while utilising many abstract elements. / AUG: When the horizon becomes unbroken all attention is focused on the forces of nature. / SEPT: The backlit effects of views out to sea from the West coast are in this case painted from memory. / OCT: Near the causeway from Barra (left) to Vatersay (right) this study captures a moment when the sun breaks out to strike the gulf stream waters which light up against the dark sky ahead. / NOV: Sometimes a literal depiction of a scene is the best way to highlight a postcard picturesque spot like this. / DEC: This describes the quality of evening light across the broken West Coast using contrasting translucent and opaque paint application.

Some Dance / / The graceful dance of / restless waves falling over themselves to / kiss waiting sand, delivering / whispered voices from distant ships / sending bad news home, / in floating bottles. / / To Whom It May Concern: / SOS.
