  • The Highlands and Islands of Scotland are depicted in Scott’s atmospheric and vibrant oils. / JAN: The Plane to Barra lands on the beach just beyond this croft. / FEB: This Sky study focuses on the effects of afterglow at sunset across the Western isles. / MAR: Crinan, Postcard picturesque harbour town located at the end of the Crinan Canal. My wife and I stayed at the Crinan Hotel owned by Scottish landscape artist Frances MacDonald. / APR: Looking West in the evening, cloud cover can become backlit and play tricks with perceived colour. / MAY: This place on the East coast of Barra allowed me a great opportunity to play with cool/warm colour contrasts and design-led mark making. / JUN: This loch (in the shape of the map of Scotland) I’ve painted many times. I pass it on trips to Skye and it looks different every time. / JUL: Sometimes what you want to say with colour can be restricted by reality for a representational painter… not here. This accurately depicts a recognisable landscape on Barra, while utilising many abstract elements. / AUG: When the horizon becomes unbroken all attention is focused on the forces of nature. / SEPT: The backlit effects of views out to sea from the West coast are in this case painted from memory. / OCT: Near the causeway from Barra (left) to Vatersay (right) this study captures a moment when the sun breaks out to strike the gulf stream waters which light up against the dark sky ahead. / NOV: Sometimes a literal depiction of a scene is the best way to highlight a postcard picturesque spot like this. / DEC: This describes the quality of evening light across the broken West Coast using contrasting translucent and opaque paint application.

  • St Mary’s Loch in the lovely scottish borders.. between Moffat and Selkirk.. A bit of a teaser for this weekend’s bubblemeet (starting 11am in peebles kingsmeadows carpark Sunday 6/12/09 ) ... / And the odd one out is…. december’s nearby ‘loch of the lowes’ ... Thanks for looking Cheers

  • Dramatic Scottish Landscape Photography

  • My favourite images from many travels around the Highlands and Islands of Scotland.

  • A less traditional choice of images in this Calendar, I have chosen to display how the never ending weather moods of the Scottish Highlands can dramatise a landscape. / Enjoy ! MORE CALENDARS HERE….................

  • This calendar shows a selection of recent paintings from Glasgow based landscape artist Scott Naismith. Scott uses vivid colours in a vigorous application to represent the fast changing light conditions of the West coast of Scotland. Colour use often becomes an entirely emotional response to the subject while tone can remain representational. The love he has for his native Scottish countryside is portayed in his work through an ebullient energy with which he handles the colour with pallette knife and brush.

  • All these shots were taken in beautiful Scotland where the people are friendly, the views are out of this world, the food is fantastic and the weather is crap. LOL

  • Scenes around the lovely city of Edinburgh (the Athens of the North). / / / If you would like a different Edinburgh Calendar then look here. • Some of the wonderful buildings within the city boundaries of Edinburgh, Scotland which were built as Churches. Some are still serving the community as they were originally intended and some are now used for other purposes. Edinburgh is often considered one of the most picturesque cities in Europe and these fine examples of religious architecture contribute greatly to that notion.
