Meerkat….... Meerkats are primarily insectivores, but also eat lizards, snakes, scorpions, spiders, plants, eggs, small mammals, millipedes, centipedes and, more rarely, small birds. They are partially immune to certain venoms; they are immune to the very strong venom of the scorpions of the Kalahari, unlike humans. They have no excess body fat stores, so foraging for food is a daily need. Meerkats forage in a group with one sentry on guard watching for predators while the others search for food. Sentry duty is usually approximately an hour long.

Cute huh? Think again. They’re the size of small dogs and live in packs. And they can strip a human to bare bones in a few minutes.

Meerkat pup…... Meerkats forage in a group with one “sentry” on guard watching for predators while the others search for food. Sentry duty is usually approximately an hour long. Baby meerkats do not start foraging for food until they are about 1 month old, and do so by following an older member of the group who acts as the pup’s tutor. The meerkat standing guard makes peeping sounds when all is well. If the meerkat spots danger, it barks loudly or whistles.

Scorpions The Scorpion is a master of self defense and is a symbol of “always prepared.” Scorpion teaches about constant vigilance and how to deal with intensity, whether it be environmental, physical, or spiritual. By being a small creature, it teaches concealing the readiness through its ability to “slip through the cracks” By its zodiac connection it is connected to late Fall and Autumn as well.

Macro photograph taken from a tree. I’m unsure what type of tree this is, it has leaves like pine needles but not a pine tree. I have seen a wattle tree with similar leaves to this one. The bark is most fascinating. I will need to investigate further. I found a group of these trees down at The Spit on the Gold Coast. Again…...another storm approached and had to make a run for the car. I prefer to take my photos late in the afternoon, the results always seem to be better for this type of photo, preferably on the shady side..no direct sunlight. I am very passionate about finding various pictures and abstract designs in the bark of a tree. Truly Mother Natures unique style of art!!!
