October 24 to November 22 Traditional / Scorpio Traits Determined and forceful / Emotional and intuitive / Powerful and passionate / Exciting and magnetic On the dark side…. Jealous and resentful / Compulsive and obsessive / Secretive and obstinate Scorpios are the most intense, profound, powerful characters in the zodiac. Even when they appear self-controlled and calm there is a seething intensity of emotional energy under the placid exterior. They are like the volcano not far under the surface of a calm sea, it may burst into eruption at any moment. But those of us who are particularly perceptive will be aware of the harnessed aggression, the immense forcefulness, magnetic intensity, and often strangely hypnotic personality under the tranquil, but watchful composure of Scorpio. In conventional social gatherings they are pleasant to be with, thoughtful in conversation, dignified, and reserved, yet affable and courteous; they sometimes possess penetrating eyes which make their shyer companions feel naked and defenseless before them. In their everyday behavior they give the appearance of being withdrawn from the center of activity, yet those who know them will recognize the watchfulness that is part of their character. They need great self-discipline, because they are able to recognize the qualities in themselves that make them different from other humans, and to know their utterly conventional natures can be used for great good, or great evil. Their tenacity and willpower are immense, their depth of character and passionate conviction overwhelming, yet they are deeply sensitive and easily moved by their emotions. Their sensitivity, together with a propensity for extreme likes and dislikes make them easily hurt, quick to detect insult or injury to themselves (often when none is intended) and easily aroused to ferocious anger. This may express itself in such destructive speech or action that they make lifelong enemies by their outspokenness, for they find it difficult not to be overly critical of anything or anyone to whom they take a dislike. They can harness their abundant energy constructively, tempering their self-confidence with shrewdness and their ambition with magnanimity toward others provided they like them. They relate to fellow workers only as leaders and can be blunt to those they dislike to the point of cruelty. In fact they are not above expressing vindictiveness in deliberate cruelty. They are too demanding, too unforgiving of faults in others, perhaps because they are not aware of the shortcomings within themselves, and extravagantly express their self-disgust in unreasonable resentment against their fellows. They do, however, make excellent friends, provided that their companions do nothing to impugn the honor of which Scorpios are very jealous. Part of the negative side of the Scorpio nature is a tendency to discard friends once they cease to be useful, but the decent native is aware of, and fights this tendency. They are fortunate in that their strong reasoning powers are tempered with imagination and intuition, and these gifts, together with critical perception and analytical capacity, can enable the Scorpions to penetrate to profundities beyond the average. They have a better chance of becoming geniuses than the natives of any other sign.But charismatic “twice-born” characters such as they can sink into the extremes of depravity if they take the wrong path, and the intensity of their nature exaggerates their harmful tendencies into vices far greater than the normal. / Rebelliousness against all conventions, political extremism to the point where hatred of the Establishment makes them utterly unscrupulous terrorists. Brooding resentment, aggressive and sadistic brutality, total arrogance, morbid jealousy, extreme volatility of temperament, these are some of their vices. At the other extreme is the procrastinator, the man or woman who is capable of so much that they do nothing and become indolent and self-indulgent, requiring extravagant praise and flattery from those whom they make their cronies. Being so gifted, they can find fulfillment in many employments. Their inner intensity can result in the ice-cold self-control and detachment of the surgeon, the concentration of the research scientist, and the heroism of the soldier. Any profession in which analysis, investigation, research, dealing with practicalities, and the solving of mysteries are relevant, can appeal to them. So police and detective work, espionage and counterespionage, the law, physics or psychology may attract them, and they can become masters of the written and spoken word. They may be most persuasive orators and find fulfillment as diplomats or preachers and, if they make the Church their profession, their inner intensity can express itself in the spiritual fervor of the mystic or the thaumaturgy. Scorpio is the symbol of sex and Scorpios are passionate lovers, the most sensually energetic of all the signs. For them, union with the beloved is a sacrament, an “outward and visible sign of an inward and spiritual grace”. Their overriding urge in loving is to use their power to penetrate beyond themselves and to lose themselves sexually in their partners in an almost mystical ecstasy, thus discovering the meaning of that union which is greater than individuality, and is a marriage of the spirit as well as of flesh. They are thus capable of the greatest heights of passionate transport, but debauchery and perversion are always dangers, and Scorpios can become sadistic monsters of sensuality and eroticism. Their feelings are so intense that even when their love is of the highest, and most idealistic kind, they are nevertheless frequently protagonists in tragic, even violent romances, “star-crossed lovers”

These make excellent birthday cards ! I am designing 12 images based around the months of the year and the old Celtic luna months. They will reflect the changing of the seasons and the ever turning wheel of the year, the magic and mystery attatched to each part of the cycle and any special festivals falling in those months. No one alive will ever see this again! / I know that I won’t be getting much sleep in August, as my eyes will be on the skies to witness the red planet up close and personal. / Earth is catching up with Mars in an encounter that will culminate in the closest approach between the two planets in recorded history. It is guesstimated, the next time Mars may come this close is in 2287. / Due to the way Jupiter’s gravity tugs on Mars and perturbs its orbit, astronomers can only be certain that Mars has not come this close to Earth in the last 5000 years, but it may be as long as 60,000 years before it happens again. / The encounter will culminate on August 27th, when Mars comes within 34,649,589 miles of Earth and will be (next to the Moon) the brightest object in the night sky. It will attain a magnitude of -2.9 and will appear 25.11 arc seconds wide, at a modest 75 power magnification. / Mars will look as large as the full Moon to the naked eye and will be easy to spot at the beginning of August as it rises in the east at 10pm and reaching its azimuth at 3am. By the end of August when the two planets are closest, Mars will rise at nightfall and reach its highest point in the sky at 12:30 am. / Truly a sight that no human being has seen in recorded history, so mark your calendar at the beginning of August to see and watch Mars grow progressively brighter and brighter throughout the month… / Mars is the security department head, responding with action and self-defense, making you brave, courageous, daring and even fearless, symbolically speaking. Colored pencils on Bristol board, / 8.5×12 / 2008 I’ve been for quite some time seeking to join two of my biggest passions: astrology and art, two languages with so much in common. Then the idea for the Astroportraits was born. They are very special portraits inspired on your astrological profile. I incorporate to the picture the imagery, symbols and colors referent to the energy patterns showed in your astro chart – Rising sign, Sun and Moon signs, predominant element, Moon Nodes and other important points. The portrait becomes a visual poem, a register of your potentials and talents, reminding you how special and unique you are. A representation not only of your exterior image, but also of your inside, of your heart and soul. This is my own self portrait. I am a Gemini with Leo rising and Moon in Scorpio, and a Water/Air type. It was not easy to create my own portrait, since I identify myself with so many symbols and elements that I thought better to let the intuition go in my favor. In the very last years I’ve been lived a phase of intense changes that made me seek for my strength within, something that I don’t remember to have done so hard before. I remember having made a very rough sketch of a Scorpio (my moon sign) and a Lion (my rising sign), my two inner powers; then I stuck it on the wall and looked at it every time I needed strength, to remind myself that I had that force, that it was in me as part as what I was. Things are surely smoother now, but I wanted my portrait as a perennial register of this power I discovered within myself. Then I drew a Lion, my rising sign, very close to me, almost like a constant companion. This lion arises from the waters, from the big ocean of emotions that characterize all the water types. Although one may think that water people are fragile due to their emotional, sensitive nature, they may be considered extremely strong exactly due to this attunement – they know like nobody how to deal with such world. My Air quality is represented by the color yellow and by the butterflies – also representatives of my sun sign, Gemini. Butterflies go vivaciously from one place to another just like Gemini does. They are also flying animals, symbols of freedom, one of my strongest characteristics. Another reason for picking the butterfly is because it’s one of my favorite animal totems, present in several of my pieces. Butterflies are the symbol of rebirth and transformation and this is why it makes them so special to my eyes. Rebirth and transformation are also keywords of my Moon sign – Scorpio. Another element I created to represent this sign in my portrait was the lotus flower, due to its relation to situations of reconstruction after long struggle or even total loss – the lotus blooms from the mud. It is also a symbol of spirituality, something that is an important part of my daily life and that helps me keep going in spite of any obstacle. A triskele, Celtic symbol of life cycles, shows on the top with the glyphs of Gemini, Leo and Scorpio. SCORPIO TRAITS AND THEMES As the Earth passes into fall and then winter, we make our descent into Pluto’s underworld represented by the Scorpio archetype and the eighth house or death, transformation and rebirth. When we enter Scorpio territory, we leave behind Libra’s quiet, calm equanimity and serenity. Scorpio (the second water sign) hangs out in the turbulent murky waters of the emotions and the unconscious. Scorpio is secretive, withdrawn and inward, and also a brave soul. Scorpio is vulnerable to doubts, depressive moods and obsessive-compulsive behaviors. At the low end, Scorpio is cynical, negative, devious, suspicious, deceitful, controlling and manipulative. At the high end, Scorpio is about psychological transformation, resurrection, enlightenment and immortality. Scorpios have depth, an uncanny instinctual awareness and psychic abilities. They can attune to the unconscious and intuitively pick up on things without knowing where the information came from. Scorpio takes life seriously. Nothing is frivolous. At some level, Scorpio knows that there is much accumulated karma to be resolved this life time and is committed to the clean up task. Scorpio knows that dedication and commitment are required to transform habits and to release imprints that have been with us for lifetimes. INTERNAL TRANSFORMATION When we are deep into the Scorpio leg of our journey, we are subjected to disruptive transitions and profound transformation. Scorpio territory is not a comfort zone. But if we are willing to be authentic, it is a power zone. In this arena we learn how to access and use our soul power that is embodied in our emotions. The transformative alchemy happens deep within us. It often transpires in the context of intimate relationships. In our Scorpio phase of development, our negative emotions are exposed. We are obliged to learn how to be in touch with the energy of fear, anger, rage, aggression and sadness. Our lesson is to embrace these primal emotional energies and to transmute them to their higher expressions. We are drawn to spiritual practices that involve Tantra or sacred sexuality and the activation of the Kundalini. SCORPIO’S HIDDEN TERRITORY Scorpio is a mysterious and individualistic sign. Scorpio symbolizes a hiding place, a cavity, or a hole where something precious is hidden. It represents a deep opening to the power center of the Earth and an access route to the psyche of the soul. Anatomically Scorpio is associated with the genitals and the anus. When properly activated and managed, the Scorpio archetype leads to the unfoldment of charismatic, mystical and psychic powers. Misuse of these powers, i.e. black magic, emotional and sexual abuse, and illegal activities can get us into deep trouble. The Scorpio impulse causes us to experience both inner and outer conflict, chaos and upheaval. This is not because it is inherently negative energy. It is because this energy churns within us, creating turmoil and upset until it is activated and consciously available to use for the evolutionary unfoldment of ourselves and others. When this power is denied or suppressed, it internalizes and externalizes in disruptive and destructive ways. It can manifest as vindictiveness, revengefulness and selfishness. Scorpio is motivated by its deep internal struggle to befriend and to creatively use this powerful energy of the soul. The strength of this energy gives us determination, tenacity and imponderable depth. These attributes reflect the fact that Scorpio is a fixed sign. Despite that fact that it is the main archetype of death and rebirth, it holds on and resists change. But its fixity also helps it consolidate, focus and fight until the battle is won. LIBERATING OUR SOUL POTENTIAL Scorpio represents the movement toward and liberation of the soul power concealed within us. Our emotional, mental and material attachments must give way to find soul consciousness. Our limited ego-self must die, so that our cosmic Self may be born. Scorpio reveals our divine potential and our capacity to expand beyond our limited perceptions of who we are conditioned to believe we are. When we realize that we are more than our appearance, thoughts and personality, we desire to find our essential nature and to experience the essence of our soul. As our understanding of and reaction to physical reality shifts, we begin to recognize the latent possibilities of our soul. We desire to experience more profound aspects of ourselves and to develop our hidden powers. The reorientation of our life toward spiritual goals brings with it many human challenges. As the nature of our quest shifts, our life intensifies. Necessary readjustments disturb the equilibrium in relationships, career, health and other life situations. Our new spiritual direction requires new alignments. Emotional conflicts arise. Psychological problems are exposed. Physical circumstances and relationships change. You’ll dig as deep as needs be to uncover the truth of the matter, however painful, and you’‘ll feel it deeply and deal with it wisely, unless you’re so hurt that you lash out. Both women and men MUST protect themselves. Lives changed by foolish decisions. behaviour in society/on the streets which is NOT acceptable. BRUMBY GOVT. allowing MORE party drinking venues in our CITY CENTRE of MELBOURNE. NOT enough police on our streets TELEVISION serving up a pile of RUBBISH ….I see suggested RAPE scenes/SEX on MELBOURNE TV. A warning to the viewer does NOT mean it is ok for US to be served out this RUBBISH/ CERTAIN types of REALITY TV have helped pave the way for this behaviour in our homes/schools/streets/etc…..... / MUSIC:I have listened to music which actually suggests sex/sleeping around….......DRUGS and ALCOHOL RADIO: YOU are also responsible NEWSPAPERS/MAGAZINES: YOU are also responsible. HOTELS : YOU are also responsible CASINOS: YOU also are responsible FOOTBALL CLUBS: YOU are also responsible.
