Among my favorites at the Cockrell Butterfly Center in Houston is the Rice Paper butterfly. I loved the way it stood out on the flowers, its white and black basics blending into a beautiful tapestry with the colorful fragrant blossoms on which it fed.

I thought these two rice paper butterflies looked like they were in conversation, enjoying each other’s company. That’s what triggered the idea for a “thanks for the hospitality” card. It seems so bright and cheerful, like all good friendships are.

A rice paper butterfly hangs onto this lovely pink flower and reminds me that we should hold on, too, when times get rough. The Bible tells us, “Because he clings to me, I will deliver him,” so clinging’s the answer when troubles come!

This is a straight-from-pen-to-paper jobbie that drew itself the other day while my boys were playstationing in the lounge. I added some tone to the sky with p’shop, but that’s about it. / I like it coz it’s a bit of an un-planned homage to all the black and white comic books from the early 80’s that i loved, like 2000 Ad, Beano, Mad, Heavy Metal etc, that made me want to draw in the first place…

This is something I have wanted to do for a long time. I started out trying to take photos of my own hand, and just in time, my mate Matt walked in and offered to be the one behind the shower curtain. Soon as I took this, it reminded me of one of those old horror / mad scientist films from the 60s / 70s, where the unknowing person is baited and lead into an experiment of sorts.. and then finding out only when inside the glass or plastic prison, that they won’t be leaving it alive. This is the moment of realisation. The moment the mad scientist classifies you a failure, meaning only one thing.. Slight crop of original shot, added omni lighting filter, and increased contrast slightly. The grain is from the texture of the curtain.
