The heavy weight. The working horse is always a favorite! Even out of harness you can see their power. This lot look like they’re coming up for a treat. / An original drawing of Clydesdales done in colour pencil and white gouache. Size of original artwork – 55cm x 81cm 2007
Churchill Island, located off Philip Island Vic, has a working horse display every Easter. It is great watching these magnificent animals in action just like days gone by. / Colour pencil on mat board 55.5×40cm 2008 Sold.
I have a lovely black – brown Standardbred mare. Her name is Stirling Moon, but we call her Spot (Spotless) This painting is modeled after her, with a few changes so I was not compelled to keep the painting! / Acrylic on canvas board. Size approx A3 2006. Sold.
This picture was a commission I had to do. It took a fair bit of planning as the customer described the colours, oriental lean, etcetera that she wanted in the pic. So, with an old piece of blue fabric and a lot of research on dragonflies, I went to work. The entire piece is done in colour pencil, with white gouache and black ink details. The original measures approx 55cm x 55cm. 2005 / Unfortunately lost to the Victorian Black Saturday fires 2009.
An original pastel painting. Original artwork size- 45cm x 67cm. 2007 It seems the larger the animal, the more docile and appealing they are. What would the world be without these magnificent creatures…...great and small! / These two are probably old enough to start training as a team in harness. / Original for sale. Not anymore, the original sold at an exhibition :)
A commission I did some time ago as a raffle prize. Wildon Impressive, ‘Imp’, for short, is a lovely Arabian pony stallion. He sure did show off for me on photo day, prancing around, giving me lovely photos to work from. Derwent colour pencils , white gouache and black ink on mat board. 36×45cm. 2006 Featured in ‘Equine Art and Photography’ group.
Once again I have used my own horse as a model for this. Although she looks absolutely nothing like it. She is a black standardbred and this one looks more like a liver chestnut quarter horse x. But the photo I used had the angle and lighting I was looking for and then I just used my artists license with the rest! Acrylic on canvas board 40.6×50.8cm 2008 Original for sale.
An acrylic painting I started many years ago and decided to finally finish it. To me its so-so, seems to be lacking. No reference photos for this one, just my imagination. / Acrylic on canvas board 51×76cm. 2008 Sold Update: Now that I have it framed it has changed the whole picture….finished it. I am really happy with it, amazing what a frame can do :)
Yep, your typical Bully type dog, stocky and full of comical attitude. And of course, loyal as! :) / A4 commissioned portrait, Derwent colour pencil, white gouache and black ink on mat board. 2008
This was a fun one for me to do. I started off with the traditional pastels on a brown mat board, but it didnt feel right. I wanted to try something different, so I started again using acrylic paint and finishing with pastels. An effect I really like :) / Acrylic paint and soft pastels on mat board. 29×54cm. 2008. Sold at exhibition….the first time it was shown! 2008
This is Shifty’s partner in crime :) A Rotty that is such a gentleman, but still plenty of character to him. A4 portrait done in Derwent pencil, white gouache and black ink on mat board. Commissioned. 2008
Ornamental grass in my backyard. Photography.
A variety of mediums, subjects, time and styles.
The tide’s going out exposing all the strange formations of the rock pools. The sunset lighting gave the scene that ‘other worldly’ look.
A dune reflects in the calm water at the mouth of Powlett River. On the other side of the dunes the surf thunders.
Another photo of that huge bon fire.
The morning sun shining through rain drops on a gum leaf. April 2009
A surprise Christmas pressie for Mick from his wife and kids. Yes he WAS surprised! The Chev 36 he still owns, although not quite in such a finished and gleaming condition, and the FX Mick had to sell in order to get the money to finish building his house. Done in colour pencil, white gouache and black ink on mat board. 38×54cm 2008 Commission
I did this painting a few years ago. It is symbolic for me in many ways. The photo I used I took along the M1 in East Gippsland coming home from holidays. I snapped it out the car window as we were traveling along, with telegraph poles wires and all. Of course I used my Artists License and removed the poles and wires for my painting! Acrylic paint on canvas board. 60×75cm. 1997 Sold
More of the beautiful Wattle flower.
Out for a walk, always with my camera as there is always something to photograph. This time of year seems to turn yellow with the wattle in full flower.
Just a bon fire…..but a rather large one, two long-dead pine trees piled together. I took many photos of the fire showing the heat and fury, the life of its own it seems to have.
Another photo of Powlett river. The reflection of the clouds, the silver wet sands and the ripples made it look so light and sparkly :)
Well, I suppose the title is self explanatory….isn’t it? Have a look at my pastel painting ‘Barktown Light’ That bushland (and my town…11 homes lost) has gone through devastating bushfire. This is what ‘Barktown light looks like now :(
