The Cape Schanck Lighthouse in Victoria, Australia. Located on the Mornington Peninsula.
Standing atop the cliffs at Mornington Peninsula’s southern most tip, the Cape Schanck lighthouse is a warning that this piece of coastline is not to be messed with. It’s not easy getting to this point of coast when there is very little light and an unpredictable tide. Lucky for me the sky provided a nice show of colour to make the effort worth it.
After shooting the early light of the morning down at Cape Schanck I thought I’d take a quick shot of the sun light reflecting off the large boulders in this little cove. I love the warm colours and shapes of wet boulders in the sun. If you ever go down to this place when the tied is high and the weather a little on the wild side, the massive waves that come crashing in to this little space throw these boulders around making an awesome rumbling sound. A must see if you live close enough to the Mornington Peninsula.

Cape Schanck on a mild, but windy Sunday evening as the tide sucked the water over the rocks at sunset. And in the distance, is Simone Byrne, trekking on the rocks, looking for the next shot. Woke up at 4:40 am and drove down to Cape Schanck hoping to get at least one shot and this was the one (or 5 seeing it’s a stitch). Got here around 6:00 am and had the whole place to myself. It was pretty rough but thankfully not too windy. For anyone who plans on going here make sure you know the tide times, and have adequate footwear! Taken with my Canon 40D and 10-22mm wide angle lens, 5 shot stitch in Adobe Photoshop CS4. Used two ND4 grad filters as I don’t have any ones darker than an ND4, hence the reddy colour as well. Better viewed large! Click here for my other seascapes

Taken at Cape Schanck, Victoria. Lawrence Norton (also on Redbubble) and I decided to head down to the cape for a sunrise shoot a few weeks back, and wouldn’t you know it, it was overcast! Not exactly what we had hoped for. But Lawrence in all his optimism, declared “The heavens WILL open up for us!” And sure enough it did, albeit just a little. We’re looking forward to seeing a lot more of these cold, windy, stormy mornings as winter approaches! Shot with a Nikon D200, 12-24mm lens @ 15mm, F/11, ISO 100, polarizer, tripod, cable release. 7 shot HDR plus 2 extra single shot tone mapped images. Merged/mapped in Photomatix, overall blending/levels/saturation/etc in Photoshop. BEST VIEWED LARGER
