I took this picture on the steepest island of the world…La Palma (canarian islands). Although it’s the steepest island of the world it’s very rare that it’s snowy on top of the biggest vulcanic mountain. / It was a lucky week so I drove all the way up to the “Roche De Los Muchachos”>>> / (3000 metres high). Shortly before I reached the top a little cave caught my attention. / I went inside and discovered beautiful, thick icicles. At least for me ! / This picture was taken in Pisaq near Cusco, Peru’ in 2006 ! / The ruins of Pisaq is about 20 miles from Cusco and like the more famous Machu Picchu was an important city during the Inca empire. / It sprawled across three mountains at the altitude of about 3600 mts, offering visitors spectacular views.

At Day’s End As the sun goes down over the front range mountains of Denver, Colorado, the Sunflowers turn, in anticipation of the sun coming back up in the morning. Photographed in a field where all you can see for miles and miles is Sunflowers….billions of Sunflowers. An entire sea of yellow and gold….caught in my lens for a fleeting instant, where the whole world was at peace…. Captured along the Mount Evans Wilderness in Colorado, this is one of those waterfalls that kind of sneaks up on ya outta the blue, and if you blink, you actually miss it. I really don’t much in the way of long exposure shots, but after being happy with how this one came out, I am going to start doing them more. Hope ya all like it! Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado…..and how I love shooting up there when the winter weather begins to roll on in…the wind is bad, the air—-freezing cold, but the images that one can capture are filled with atmosphere and drama, case in point, this shot here. I about froze my butt off getting this shot of Mummy Mountain, but I wanted something that really showed all the detail here….that represented what it’s all about being a nature photographer in Colorado…... / Thoughts welcomed! / HDR blending used to bring out more dramatic light and detail / John

Upper Antelope Canyon – USA 2008 The Navajo name for Upper Antelope Canyon is Tse’ bighanilini, which means “the place where water runs through rocks.” Upper Antelope is at about 4,000 feet in elevation and the canyon walls rise 120 feet above the stream bed. Though dry most of the year, Antelope Canyon runs, and sometimes floods, with water after rains. It is the water, slowly wearing away the sandstone grain by grain, that has formed the beautiful and graceful curves in the rock. *Sunflowers and Colorado Sunsets * Revisiting the Sunflower fields I miss so much, a magical place on the eastern plains of Colorado like no where else, a place one day I hope returns. As the front rage of the Colorado Rocky Mountains dances with the setting sun, this scene seemed something out a paradise lost, the kind of thing you only ever read about. On this day when shooting the sunset here, I shot over 400 shots and came back quite a few other times as well. Well worth it I would say! This is the Isle of Skye at it’s best, when there is a lot of colour in the landcsape, with the low sun we get this far North at this time of year, accentuating every detail. / This is the crofting community of Tarskavaig, with the glorious backdrop of the Cuillin Hills. / “Crofting” is small time farming, or “smallholding” where a few crops might be grown, and a small number of cattle or sheep kept. A single RAW file, shot on my Canon EOS 50D , polariser filter, f25, 1/2 sec, underexposed by 2/3 stop, iso 100, auto wb, processed in Adobe CR, then in CS3. MORE OF MY ISLE OF SKYE WORK…...

Kyleakin is the first village encountered on the Isle of Skye, when you cross over the bridge from Kyle of Lochalsh…....this is where the old Ferry boat used to land, which I don’t miss at all, romantic it might be, but darned inconvenient !! / The old ruin you can see behind the boats is Castle Moil…......a few facts for you….... “The 14th Century Castle Moil has had many names in its long history. Also known as Dun Akyn (Norse for Hakon’s Fort) and An Caisteal Maol in Gaelic, it is now a romantic ruin. Sited at the Skye end of the road bridge in the village of Kyleakin, the castle has Norse connections. Legend has it that a Norwegian princess, otherwise known as “Saucy Mary”, ordered a chain to be hung from the castle to the mainland so that no boat could pass without paying a tax.” / Nothing new under the sun then, eh ??!! LOL !! A three RAW HDR, shot on my Canon EOS 50D, polarising filter fitted, iso 100, f23, Auto WB, processed in Photomatix, then sprucing up in Adobe Photoshop CS3. / I used HDR because of the extreme light / shadow.
