Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado…..and how I love shooting up there when the winter weather begins to roll on in…the wind is bad, the air—-freezing cold, but the images that one can capture are filled with atmosphere and drama, case in point, this shot here. Sanctuary – Middle English, from Old French sainctuarie, from Late Latin s?nctu?rium, from Latin s?nctus, sacred, sanctify. Sacred place, especially the most sacred part of a sacred place. In ancient times and in the Middle Ages, a sanctuary served as asylum, a place of refuge for persons fleeing from violence or from the penalties of the law. To injure a person in sanctuary or to remove him from it forcibly was considered sacrilege. In Egypt the temples of Osiris and Amon offered the right of sanctuary. Under the Greeks all temples enjoyed this privilege, and certain ones, like the Temple of Apollo at Delphi, were known throughout the Mediterranean world as a haven for fugitives. In Rome fugitive slaves often sought sanctuary. Christian churches were given the right of sanctuary by Constantine I. Abuses of sanctuary, tending to encourage crime, led to its curtailment and abolition. Modern penal codes no longer recognize the right of sanctuary.

“Rainy Day On The Mulberry River” / Fall has arrived!!!!! As Is…...... / Canon PowerShot S3 IS Sometimes during the fall season, Arkansas is subjected to rain storms rolling in. It makes the light for photography a bit more difficult, but it doesn’t dampen my spirit because it sure adds mood. With the cool air meeting the / warn air, in comes the fog, adding a warmer touch to the otherwise bold colors of this fall scene along the Mulberry River. This shot was taken by turning off from Highway 23 South, also known as the “Scenic Pig Trail Bypass”, on to Arkansas State Highway 112. A New Years Sunrise While not a sunrise in the traditional sense of the word, but it sure seemed to be with the sun hiding behind the clouds, back lighting and glowing everything around me in a colorful haze in Moraine Park inside Rocky Mountain National Park. It was nothing but stunning! Quite the way to start and kick off the New Years I think! Processed in Photomatix HDR with 3 RAW files, then output through PSP 10, , shot on my 5D and Minolta 18-200 DT using a Singh-Ray CPL, and then hiding behind the car to shield myself from 80 MPH wind gusts lol The crazy thing is, the haze in the background, is actually from the snow that was falling and whipping around. Well this shot did really well over on deviantART so I thought that I would also share with you all here too. (I honestly wasn’t expecting the 1600 odd favorites it received over there, took me by surprise!) Storm clouds fight with the evening sunset over the Colorado Rockies & Longs Peak. Every now and then I like to get a little artistic with my HDR’s and this is one of those, there is no right, no wrongs when it comes to photography and artistic interpretation, and i realize that not everyone likes that, nor this style, that is fine, I respect that, but I also ask the same of you to respect my creativeness, too! Sutton Bank is a high vantage point at the very edge of the Hambleton Hills and the North York Moors with extensive views over the Vale of York and the Vale of Mowbray. Because of its location and high elevation, Sutton Bank is popular with gliding and flying enthusiasts. Predominant landmarks include Whitestone Cliff and Roulston Scar, the former overlooking the mysterious (and reputedly bottomless !) Lake Gormire. Close nearby are the villages of Sutton-under-Whitestonecliff, and Kilburn (famous for the White Horse of Kilburn, and Robert Thompson – the “Mouseman” of Kilburn). / Sutton Bank is one of the most spectacular inland cliffs anywhere in Britain, and carries one of the most hair-raising main roads in the country. The near vertical drop from top to bottom is around 140 metres, and crosses at least two major geological boundaries. / The Sutton Bank National Park Centre is on the western edge of the fabulous North York Moors National Park – home to the largest expanse of heather moorland in England. Rural northern Boulder County, Colorado Honest to God above, this was utterly amazing….I can’t really find the wards to describe the whole scene to you all but I will try my best. I had to handhold this, along with the other shots to come, my knee is totally kaput so using a tripod was pretty much out of the question, however that isn’t the only reason…as we were shooting last evening, the lightning was all over the place, and well there were times when I wanted to grab it and try, but thought better of it lol Tripods make for great Lightning conductors! lol The clouds were just insane, and I mean really crazy, this storm went severe dropping reports of funnel clouds to the north east of us and hail as well. It passed over our heads, but sure made for some utterly incredible atmospheric shots! So you take that, a Sunflower field the size of a small state, the sunset, a country road, and the foothills and mountains as a backdrop, and friends, you have quite a scene you will NEVER forget!
