Captured along the Mount Evans Wilderness in Colorado, this is one of those waterfalls that kind of sneaks up on ya outta the blue, and if you blink, you actually miss it. I really don’t much in the way of long exposure shots, but after being happy with how this one came out, I am going to start doing them more. Hope ya all like it! Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado…..and how I love shooting up there when the winter weather begins to roll on in…the wind is bad, the air—-freezing cold, but the images that one can capture are filled with atmosphere and drama, case in point, this shot here. I about froze my butt off getting this shot of Mummy Mountain, but I wanted something that really showed all the detail here….that represented what it’s all about being a nature photographer in Colorado…... / Thoughts welcomed! / HDR blending used to bring out more dramatic light and detail / John

Mooney Falls is a waterfall on Havasu Creek, in the northwest corner of the U.S. state of Arizona, near the town of Supai in the Havasupai Indian Reservation. It is named after prospector D. W. “James” Mooney who fell to his death trying to cross the canyon on a homemade ladder. Local Native Americans called it “Hualapai” or “Hualpai” falls. It is located about 1 kilometre downstream (i.e. to the north) of Havasu Falls, just past the large campground that lies between the two falls. Mooney Falls is accessible with considerable difficulty down a very steep trail (including two rock tunnels) that has been cut into the rock. Chains and a ladder at the bottom assist, but spray from the falls coats the dust-covered rock with water and reddish mud that makes climbing treacherous.

Nestled outside of Copper Mountain in Colorado, this caught my attention fast as I was coming back home to Denver. It literally came out of no where, and thus I slammed on the breaks and made a B-line for the shoulder of the road. Eiffel Tower view at night from Pont Alexandre III. Pont Alexandre III is an arch bridge that spans the Seine, connecting the Champs-Élysées quarter and the Invalides and Eiffel Tower Quarter, regarded by many as one of the prettiest in Paris. The bridge, with its exuberant Art Nouveau lamps, cherubs, nymphs and winged horses at either end, was built between 1896 and 1900. It was named after Tsar Alexander III (father of Nicholas II) of Russia. It was Nicholas II who laid the foundation stone in October 1896. The style of the bridge reflects that of the Grand Palais, to which it leads on the right bank. The construction of the bridge is a marvel of 19th century engineering, consisting of a 6m high single span steel arch. The design was subject to strict controls that prevented the bridge from obscuring the view of the Champs-Élysées or the Invalides. The bridge was built by the engineers Résal and Alby and inaugurated in 1900 for the Universal Exhibition. Classified as historical monument, four gold-covered bronze statues hover over the bridge, on the top of 17 meter columns, representing “Renommées” standing close to Pegasus.

Captured in the ghost town of Como, Colorado…..this Horse and many others like him, have had a really hard winter. The town was cut off from supplies for over 6 weeks, and when I was up that way I wanted to make sure the Horses were ok…and to my pleasure they were. / They are working horses, an icon of the American West, ridden by Cowboys and worked everyday. The beautiful pastel colours of this exquisite sunset are created by atmospheric conditions of the Vog from the volcanic activity on the Big Island. She was originally named Lydia Liliu Loloku Walania Wewehi Kamaka’eha, Lydia Liliuokalani Paki, and also known as Lydia Kamakaʻeha Paki, with the chosen royal name of Liliʻuokalani. Queen Liliʻuokalani was an accomplished author and songwriter. Her book, Hawaiʻi’s Story by Hawaiʻi’s Queen, gave her view of the history of her country and her overthrow and therefore became the first Native Hawaiian female author. Liliʻuokalani was known for her musical talent. Lili’u is said to have played guitar, piano, organ, ‘ukulele and zither. She also sang alto, performing Hawaiian and English sacred and secular music. She would find herself in music. In her memoirs she wrote: “to compose was as natural to me as to breathe. This gift remains a source of the greatest consolation.” She wrote over 165 songs and chants. Some of her best-known musical compositions include the song, “Aloha ʻOe”, “The Queen’s Jubilee”, “He Mele Lahui Hawai’i”, and “Ku’u Pua I Paoakalani” ~ Source: Wikipedia !!

Boreas Pass, Colorado…..one of my favorite places on the face of the Earth to shoot at….the fact that there is hardly anyone ever up here and the fields of Wildflowers go on forever really make this quite an extraordinary place. Located on the Continental Divide, it reaches an altitude of 11,481 feet high. The pass was formerly known as Breckenridge Pass in the 1860s, when it served as an early route for thousands of prospectors during the Colorado Gold Rush who crossed from South Park to look for gold in the valley of the Blue around Breckenridge. In 1866, it was widened to a wagon road that accommodated stagecoaches. In 1882, under the direction of Sidney Dillon of the Union Pacific Railroad , the Denver, South Park and Pacific Railroad (by then controlled by the Union Pacific) begun laying narrow gauge tracks up the pass, which Dillon renamed in honor of Boreas, the Ancient Greek god of the North Wind.
