This photo was taken in Antelope Canyon, which is in northern Arizona, USA. Antelope Canyon is a slot canyon, carved out of sandstone by monsoon rains. The rays of the sun only enter the canyon during certain times of the year, and only in the middle of the day. Rays like these are uncommon, and are best seen on a windy day. This was such an incredible gift from God. It reminds me of the fact that I couldn’t make art at all if it were not for His gifts: the beauty of the world, light, and the passion and desire on my part. To make this image, I traveled hundreds of miles from home, to a place that I had longed to visit for years, at a time of the year when I felt I would see rays. I had gone through the entire canyon, and it seemed as if when I got to a place where there was a ray, it had already largely faded. I was disheartened, and as at the entrance when I saw a group of people, and a photographer with a tripod set up. I turned around to see what he was photographing, and this is what I saw! The sand in the air that day wrecked two camera bodies, but it was SOOO worth it! This is the photo that has attracted the most attention to my work and also my all-time favorite. It is hard to find a scene that inspires me like this one, but I hope someday my photography in general will measure up to this one photo.

On July 21, 2009 this image was featured in the ImageWriting group. On April 22, 2009 this image won the California Challenge in the American Southwest Group. On April 1, 2009 this image won the Black & White Challenge in the Retired & Happy group. This image placed third in the Best Treatment challenge in December ‘08. The Golden Gate Bridge was barely visible in this dense morning fog. From a cliff overlooking the bay, the pillar was visible as well as a misty outline of the San Francisco skyline. Built in 1933, the bridge was completed 5 years later in 1937. It is a part of US Highway 101 and State Route 1, and is the only road to exit San Francisco to the north. A bit of trivia: The suspension bridge is 8,981 feet in length and is 200+ feet above the water. It has a total of approximately 1.2 million rivets holding it together. Night crawled through the window, hoping to not be seen, fell across the bed and made itself comfortable. / “I didn’t invite you.” / There was no response. Night began to whisper to itself in a dream. Its dark shadows fled the mattress and drooled over onto carpet, up the side of a night stand that cradled a temporarily favorite novel, a lamp that had once belonged to the owner’s mother and a stack of unread books purchased at the Goodwill store. Night crawled up the side of the wall and across a painted canvas. It shielded its eyes from the glare outside. Yellow neon shifted in ribbons around cardboard and brick. Headlights beamed, streamed and faded. The sidewalk was bothered by dark shapes streaming back and forth, flickering in jerky animation at times and at others, folding in smooth drapes of darkness, like blue-black frosting. / Night moved. It always on the move. Following. Escaping. Searching. Always moving toward the light. Or away from it. Sometimes Night wished it could lay down and stop running. Just for twenty-four hours. But it never could. / It grabbed its hat and moved smoothly, silently back out of the window and across the street. / “Oh, well, another day another sunrise.” Night said to itself. Then it turned to look back and shouted. “By the way, I’ll be back, whether I’m invited or not.” Change of Scene is acrylic on paper 15”x20”

Silhouette art of kids playing on the urban streets on the way home from the supermarket. Mr Crow is eyeballing the situation. Chuck taylors hanging from the overhead wires. Kids using the trusty trolley as a means for transport. Luckily they remembered the 2 litre milk for mum! Note that the colour of the shirt you chose determines the colour of the silhouette.
