This is the epitome of a Trawler returning to port, with the seagulls following. A common sight now, but for how much longer? / The trawler Natalie, about to enter the Looe River, Looe, Cornwall, to offload her catch, tie up and clean up, ready to return to sea the next day. Hope you like it. / Thanks for looking.
Goat. Photo based illustration. “The scapegoat was a goat that was driven off into the wilderness as part of the ceremonies of Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement, in Judaism during the times of the Temple in Jerusalem. The rite is described in Leviticus 16. / The word is more widely used as a metaphor, referring to someone who is blamed for misfortunes, generally as a way of distracting attention from the real causes.” (quoted anonymous)

Time to pull out another Dicky :) You know what they say…..when in doubt… Another shot from my visit in March 2008. The sand has all been scoured away from the wreck since this, and some of it has collapsed. Garry and Ben have both shown us the differences…..it’s a sad sight! Boston Harbour very early morning with a lovely but fast moving mist gave the scene a lovely orange glow, I had just enough time in between lens changes to catch the rowers passing by. Canon 10D, 17-40mm at 17mm, f/4, 1/1500 sec, ISO 100. No filters used. A small amount of dust and scratches removed in photoshop. Back to Canon to get the sensor cleaned. I wanted to get a photograph the waterfalls in Pontneddfechan, Wales. I did some research, planned my route in the GPS and packed my kit. The chap in the waterfall centre was very helpful and was keen to tell me the proper welsh name of the waterfalls. I smiled and nodded, I still don’t have a clue to this day what he was talking about. Unfortunately I lost the map I bought and stupidly brought along my bicycle for quick access. Bad move. I had to carry my bicycle for most of the 10 miles round trip and also had to transverse a waterfall as I got stuck on the wrong side of the river and watched a load of guys in wetsuits try to walk behind the waterfalls and fail. All good fun. / This is my first attempt at taking wateralls so please be gentle. Canon 5D, 24-70mm at 50mm, f/20, 2.5 sec, ISO 50. ND filter used. Dust and scratches removed in photoshop, upped the saturation by +2 This shot is also available from a photobook collection called Rural Mementos by redtree.me © Copyright 2009 David Reid – redtree.me – All rights reserved.

Canon 5D, 70-200mm at 70mm, f/2.8, 3.2”, ISO 400, pre-dawn, hand-held, texture added The right part of the wreck is no longer there, storms took a metre of sand or so, and that part of the keel collapsed. The council removed it. I hope they’ve retained it! Another from the SS Dicky Series Seascapes / New Zealand / Frogs / Lensbaby / Infrared / Industrial / Spam / Panorama / Landscapes
I wanted to share this little “soft” sketch with you. / Most of my artwork gets very tight but I usually start with loose ideas… rough sketches of shapes, concepts and ideas. This is just one of many sketches that I did earlier this year while I was getting myself accustom to moving a pencil or pastel around again on a fresh clean piece of paper. It was a process of re-training… waking up the ol’ muscle memory and getting my artist’s eyes to see again. 2009 has been a fantastic year of re-discovery. I am excited to be an artist again. This is a Pastel pencil on soft blue paper.
