  • Though it is a lime-green flower among the green foliage, this little Aussie wildflower, Billardiera scandens (Apple Berry), is a rather pretty thing and stands out nicely with all its companions on the vine. The fruit is a small round red berry that is quite edible and tastes just like apple. This one was photographed while on a wildflower safari with a couple of Port Macquarie Panthers Camera Club friends, along the Flower Bowl Walk in the Kattang Nature Reserve at Dunbogan, about a forty minute drive south of Port Macquarie, NSW, Australia, on a lovely spring day. Fuji S5500: High resolution jpg, Macro, f/4 @ 1/210sec, Chrome Colour setting, ISO100, Hand held. / Photoshop CS. Visit the Aussie Wildflower collection in my BubbleSite for more native gems. Enjoy! • Here is the flower of the Podolobium scandens (Netted Shaggy Pea), an Australian wildflower with a scrambling and twining growth habit. An Aussie native, the plant is found scrambling through the thick, low undergrowth on coastal heathland along the east coast of the continent and its bright yellow colour makes it stand out in all the greenery. This one was found and photographed at the Grant’s Head Nature Reserve, Bonny Hills, south of Port Macquarie NSW, Australia, on a sunny late winter day. These flowers grow in pairs so the “Magic Odd Number” rule cannot be applied here. It took me ages to find a subject that had not had its petals chewed by insects so when I finally found this pair I was very happy indeed. The early afternoon light floods down the coastal slope at just the right angle where these grow. Fuji S9600: RAW, f/3.8 @ 1/2000sec, Macro, Tripod, Timer. / Lightroom 1.1 & Photoshop CS3. • In the nearby bushes and twining up into the small willows, the Climbing Boneset was still blooming. It loves the marshy banks of streams and along the small ponds and lakes. There are three species of these in North America, all grow in Florida, two a specific to only Florida. The flower heads are made up of five-petaled, tubular florets. The vines can grow up to 20 feet. The ‘book’ says they bloom from March to October – the vines in this area are still going strong with finished heads, blooming, and a few that will still bloom over the next few weeks.
