I didn’t know this sort of thing happened on the bubble. I just received an email from a person named linda001my This is the Email: http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3256/2603898427_718cd3df09_o.jpg Now for those that don’t know these sort of scams, their called 419, or Advance Fee scams. You can find out more about them here: http://www.419scam.org/emails/2006-07/08/610142.59.htm http://www.419scam.org/419scam.htm I don’t know if this is a normal occurrence at redbubble, but it certainly has never happened to me before here. I am infuriated that this sort of behavior exists on this fine website. Of course I immediately reported the email, but I knew I had to let everyone know. Even though this is a well known scam, for every few that know, there will be others that don’t know and can be fooled. These scams work, thats why people do them. So I thought you should all be informed of at least this one Scammer. Hopefully everyone can be educated about this sort of thing, and not fall for these lies. Thank you for your time. Vestque

“lovelove40, about 3 hours ago Hello / My name is success i saw your profile today at www.redbubble.com and became intrested in you,i will also like to know you more, and if you can send an email to my email address,i will give you my pictures here is my email address successand490@yahoo.com) I believe we can move from here! Awaiting for your mail to my email address above. / Miss successPLS PLS CONTACT ME DIRECTLY TO MY EMAIL successand490@yahoo.com)THANKS” I’ve gotten this message as a comment on two separate works by two separate accounts. The first time I google searched the email “successand490@yahoo.com” and found out that several others redbubble artists were getting the exact same comment as well. That account was deleted. I just got the other one this morning. That account has already been deleted. The problem lies in the fact that they keep creating new accounts just to do this scam. They wouldn’t be so persistent if it wasn’t working. SO PEOPLE, DON’T EMAIL SUCCESSAND490@YAHOO.COM. IT IS A SCAM!!! The only thing she’s interested in is scamming you, lol. / Thanks. Vestque

Beware of email messages where the sender requests a print/s then goes on to say they will deposit a cheque in your bank which will be released on delivery. Sometimes they will deposit a cheque made out to double the required amount, then they will ask you to send them the overstated amount because their accounts dept made a mistake. These scammers choose any service or product offered on-line. They will be from another country and the cheque will come from a small unheard of bank. This type of scam is pretty obvious, but people have been taken in! if you receive this sort of message trash it or proceed with caution, if your bank is on the ball they will alert you if an unusually large cheque arrives from an obscure overseas bank.

I’m receiving scam emails more and more (now on a weekly basis) and I’m hearing about others being ripped off by low life predators on the internet! It makes me so upset that there’s so many horrible people out there that have no conscience when it comes to taking advantage of others. These con artists are mainly praying on the elderly and those that have little internet experience and sadly they’re getting away with it all the time and making a lot of money. So I’ve decided I want to help to try to spread the word about what I’ve learned over my years with my ebay business. (Many of you probably already know this… but if not.. please take careful note for the safety of your money). Let’s not let these a-holes keep getting away with it. Tell everybody (especially your folks and/or grandparents!) ♥ Please excuse the Upper Case Sentences.. it’s not me shouting.. its just so the main points show clearly. MOST IMPORTANT POINTS NEVER USE WESTERN UNION (OR ANY OTHER MONEYGRAM SERVICES) FOR ANY PURCHASES. / ♦ Even if you speak to the person on the phone or you meet them… they can still be a con. (Only use moneygrams & money orders for trusted friends and family. If sending a post office money order always make sure it’s by registered mail). NEVER* EVER GO TO A SECURE WEB PAGE VIA AN EMAIL LINK! / ♦ Link is a clickable underlined text or picture that automatically opens a website. / ♦ A Secure web page is any page that requires your ID and/or password. / / ALWAYS GO TO YOUR INTERNET BANKING, PAYPAL, ETC THROUGH YOUR INTERNET FAVOURITES OR BY TYPING THE WEBSITE ADDRESS / ♦ Banks & Paypal will NEVER send you an email asking you to change, check or do anything to your online account! So NEVER ever go to a bank or merchant account through a link in an email… no matter what the email says! (I’ve seen many emails of late from supposed banks that show my full name and reads that there’s a problem with my account and please go here to fix it – I checked them all out and they’re links to fake scam pages!!). ALWAYS ALWAYS DOUBLE CHECK BEFORE TYPING PASSWORDS TO MAKE SURE YOU’RE ON A SECURE WEBSITE (I’ve shown how to know for sure it’s a secure website further below). ALWAYS BE WARY OF AND QUESTION EMAILS!! REMEMBER the scam emails can seem extremely convincing and the websites they send you to may look exactly the same as the real websites. (hence why you need to make sure it’s a secure page before entering passwords). There’s scammers out there that copy bank web site pages and merchant accounts down to the tiniest details. So nearly anyone looking at it would never know it’s a fake. So we all need to start being wary all the time when it comes to dealing with money over the internet. The scammers will write you an extremely good and convincing email (remember they can look exactly like the real thing) with a reason for you needing to go to their fake site (they’ll even go so low as saying you’ve won or received free money somehow). They do this so you’ll go to their fake site and enter your ID and password. Once you’ve entered your details they’ve recorded it and then all they have to do is go to the proper bank/company and put in your password and ID to get full access to your accounts. This is why it’s SO important to be very careful!! ►►►Get into the habit of ALWAYS checking for the following to make sure it’s a SECURE website before you enter a password or credit card details etc. MAKE SURE THAT THE FIRST PART OF THE INTERNET ADDDRESS READS – https (SEE EXAMPLES BELOW) / ♦ Any other normal website will have just http at the beginning of the web address. The S at the end means it’s a safe and secure site (companies need to pay money and give heaps of information for that S to appear on their website address). ► / OR / ► LOOK FOR A GRAPHIC/PICTURE OF A PADLOCK SHOWN IN YOUR INTERNET BROWSER EDGE. ~ (SEE EXAMPLES BELOW) / ♦ Look in the lower right corner of your browser window’s status bar if you’re on a PC. On a Mac, you might need to look in the upper right corner. Most browsers display a padlock to show that the page you are on is secure. Holding your mouse over the padlock will usually show a simple message about security. * ► / ► / ► REMEMBER ►If it seems too good to be true then chances are extremely high that it is!!! (when in doubt about something being a scam… do a google search about it and see if there’s others that have been scammed before). ►► When it comes to money on the internet… always..always…always… be wary. ►►► Never jump quickly into decisions when it comes to spending alot of money through the internet before researching as much as possible first. I don’t want this to turn anyone off from spending money on the internet… cause it’s a wonderful world of new opportunities but I just want everybody to be extra extra careful and always have your ‘wary’ antenna up! :D And don’t worry Red Bubble is a safe site. It has a https address and padlock in secure areas of it’s site. But remember… never go to Red Bubble to purchase something via a link in an email (just to be sure it’s not a scam). I’ll be adding this to the forums too. / Happy and Safe web surfing. / Pip :D ♥ * / HERE’S THE MAIN POINTS AGAIN IN ORDER FOR EASY REFERRAL. NEVER* USE WESTERN UNION (OR ANY OTHER MONEYGRAM SERVICES) FOR ANY PURCHASES. NEVER EVER GO TO A SECURE WEBSITE VIA AN EMAIL LINK! ALWAYS BE WARY OF, AND QUESTION EMAILS!! ANYTIME YOU’RE GOING TO A SITE THAT DEALS WITH YOUR PASSWORDS TO MONEY OR YOUR CREDIT CARD DETAILS ETC. (ESPECIALLY YOUR BANK OR PAYPAL ACCOUNTS) MAKE SURE YOU GO TO THOSE WEBSITES VIA YOUR INTERNET FAVOURITES OR BY TYPING THE WEBSITE ADDRESS. ALWAYS DOUBLE CHECK BEFORE TYPING ID’S AND PASSWORDS TO MAKE SURE YOU’RE ON A SECURE WEBSITE (check there’s a https and a picture of a padlock in your browser)

The bottom line, if you don’t know them and you’re not sure, be careful not to give out ANY personal information. However, I still felt the need to give warning. Thank you! ps Naturally a lot of groups do not accept journal entries so please pass on the word. I’ve reported this to redbubble and to yahoo. Thanks!

Hi Guys, A weird thing happened to me this week. I have been dabbling with some online marketing on a website called “Craigslist”. Anyway I was excited to here someone from Amsterdam wanted to order 10 of my shirts . Today I discovered that the person ordering wanted more of my personal details so that they could send money through “Storm PAY” . My “spidey senses tingled” so I did a quick google on some of the emails contents and found to my delight it was actually a Nigerian scam. It was pretty funny actually because they expected me to send them a bunch of t-shirts without going through Redbubble or PAYPAL. They wanted Tees first and money later. / AS IF! Here is a copy of todays Email: Thank you for your reply, and I want you to know that I am from Utah and also a UK Diplomat residing in London. / Am still in State now for break, but will soon be leaving back to England to resume work. I could have met you myself for face-to-face business but I don’t have chance for that such now. / I’ll be paying you through Storm-pay Online Money Order or PAYPAL.You can only use Storm Pay for payment in their Auctions. It’s secure and protects two parties in a transaction. I will like you to provide the below requirements in your reply for me to send it to storm-pay Office for payment before you ship it. / STORMPAY/PAYPAL PAYMENT INFOMATIONS 1)Full Name:......................... / 2) Full contact address:............................... / 3)Phone Number…....................... / All this information should be provided correctly to avoid wrong payment. / I will forward my wife residential address to you for shipping as soon as the payment reaches you. / I will be very grateful to hear from you soonest.” The email address was: uwa_ette@yahoo.se Does anybody want to order 10 of my shirts to cheer me up? / Anybody? What about one of you millionaires driving around in your limo scanning the internet, on your N-series mobile, for new raw artistic Teeshirt talent? Can I start filling out the order for you mate? Oh well back to the drawing board. :
