Largest billboard in America, Times Square New York, one city block long. Now gone, building torn down. / My buddy Paul Chan painted the HUGE turbo jet eagle, I did album cover below, the Stone’s “Made In The Shade,” David Bowie in drag in a lawn chair. / The idea was that the album covers would change every week for the Rolling Stones World Tour, suspended by the eagle’s talons. / To get some idea of size, the album cover was made up of about twenty, 4 X 8 foot sheets of masonite. The thing was massive. It took ten days to paint and they called me slow. / I got hired by ArtKraft Strauss Sign Co. because I was good at faces. All male industry, lucky to work indoors. Next job I finally got outdoors, first woman ever. We used cans of pure dry pigment mixed with linseed oil and benzine, Japan drier thrown in to speed it up, everything mixed in place up in the air. Four terrific years covered in paint, got great muscles swinging on ropes, scaffolds, climbing steel framing like a monkey. What a life.

I took a photo of this scaffolding in Derby City as it really caught my eye. There is so much going on in the photo with so many great shapes and lines clustered together. I really enjoy finding something interesting in objects that are normally seen as ugly to everyone else.
Erecting bamboo scaffolding on the side of a building in HK. In the background is a building already completely covered. Notice the safety ‘harness’ which is a piece of rope tied around the window bracket. Just updated the contrast and crop so there is more detail of the scaffolders themselves, but primarily to centralise the bamboo pole and enforce the downward motion of the image.
Building the ever changing landscape of the Gold Coast Australia, one of Australia’s fastest growing areas.. even now! / This is yet another resort style accommodation/shopping complex. Camera: Canon 400D / lens: EF 18-55mm / HDR Handheld / Bracketed f/4.0, f/3.5, f/7.1 Processing: / Photoshop CS4 / Photomatix / Draganizer
My son is working on buildings for his Art folio this year, and this is one I took on our small excursion into Melbourne. / Image is HDR, had to blur the trees as none of the series of shots matched up with the breeze. / Overlayed a sky shot and applied 2 overlays of Fractalius, one with Black outlines, and one with white hightlights.
This is made up of layers of geometric photographs taken of the shadows made by scaffolding pipes.
