  Our local zoo/botanical gardens are hosting a photo competition, so I took the challenge. I visited the gardens yesterday and had a great time. I totally lost myself for about 3 hours and took over 200 pictures. The categories in the contest are, floral closeup, critters, black & white, and garden overview. The overview thing is difficult. I just don’t think they wanted me to climb trees to get a good overall shot and it’s hard to do standing on the ground amidst everything. The only critters I saw were a couple small lizards, a bunch of spiders and a few bees. The birds must not like the crowds. This assignment made it clear to me that I would like to have a second camera body. It seemed I was changing lenses frequently for varying conditions and subjects. Anyhow, I’ll just put a few of the better shots up here. I don’t need to flood RB with hundreds of flower closeup shots. I hope you enjoy these.   Is it only August 20th? The temperatures are really starting to drop once the sun begins to sink below the ridge line. In South Carolina this is the hottest part of the day. Not so here in the Mtns of WV. The days are still hot- anywhere from 80-100 but the nights are getting colder. It is no wonder the locals say Fall is already here and Winter is not too far off. / Oh- how I dread another winter like 2 years ago when the temps were well below zero. I stayed inside all layered up! I hope it doesn’t get that cold again! / How I long for those South Carolina winters. I can’t wait to get back home full time. / Now don’t get me wrong it was the beauty of the mountains of WV that inspired me to get behind the camera. It’s just the cold weather that I can no longer tolerate. After living 8 years in SC – I a native New Yorker have become accustomed to mild winters and can no longer tolerate the cold of the mountains or the Northeast. / Now that FedEx and UPS can find us it is time to send my Nikon in for repair. I haven’t been taking any pics with it lately as there is a problem with the shutter and I lose the top half of the pic. I have been using my Minolta SLR and am now waiting for the prints and cds to come back from the developers. Hopefully I will have something new to post soon. Well, it’s time to don the sweats and socks.
