/ Sitting behind these two people, yesterday, at the DACC, AGM, it occurred to me how much water has passed under the Sydney Harbour Bridge…..... / My parents took me to see the gentleman on the right perform, with his late-wife and others, in a cabaret, in the Sutherland Shire, in 1956 or so. / I saw him again, years later, when I attended meetings of a group of people who were keen for the Dutch in Sydney to be part of the new SBS Radio station, 2EA. / That’s where I also got to know the lady on the left, who seemed so full of energy, particularly for that cause. / It was now 1978 or 79 and, after having only little to do with Dutch-Australian matters, now that Multiculturism had come to Australia, the cloggie side of me was stronly revived.

Desert Painting Oil on canvas 24×18” Very much like impressionist Lenore Sherman’s “Oasis”. I had to do it for the simplicity.
16×20” oil on canvas This was based on my brain pictures from the local northern Nevada mountains and hills in my back yard. With the exception of the added water, there is none. The desert sunsets near the Pyramid Lake Paiute reservation offer many colors year round .
Horny Toad, one of abundant creatures in our desert.

There’s nothing like the inside of a packet of coffee beans just freshly opened. These are a blend called Valentino from GoCoffee. All that’s missing is the smell, but give technology another 10 years and we will have that too. :-)) Technical Details: Camera: Nikon D3 / Lens: Nikkor 105mm f/2.8 / ISO: 200 / Exposure: 1/60 sec at f/5.0 / Flash: Nikon R1C1 Kit / Flash Mode: SU-800 Commander controlling 2 SB-R200’s / Post Processing: Photoshop CS3 © 2008 John Hooton Photography
Another sunrise on the High Desert
I was in New York today and saw these, thought they were pretty cool.

Chessboard pattern as background. SB-800 fired via wireless trigger at backdrop. I liked it.
Forest fires and heat throughout Alaska have obscured the Chugach range and limited opportunities to practice landscape photography. I learned much after posing the query, What makes a good landscape photo?, but must wait to work on better foregrounds. However, upon reflection, ahem, other photographic opportunities exist. Nikon D200, Nikkor 70-300mm VR, f/5.6, 1/250, -0.67 exposure compensation, 85mm focal length, ISO 100, 2-stop ND grad, Speedlight SB-800 with diffuser bounced off white wall, Manfrotto tripod. Oh, and a patient poppy plucked from the wilds of Alaska. (If that’s not too anthropomorphic for you.)

Yes, had a bit of a play around with more spoons – love the way they look like some kind of creatures slithering towards something. / 900+ Views Nikon D80 / Nikkor 105mm AF-S VR / 105mm ISO 100 / f/22 @ 1/60 secs / SB-800 & SB-600. Snooted and fired into a white board above to provide the key light. Also see: (clickable) /
Single flash close to the fork to light up just the tines. I liked the almost abstract quality the light gave this. Nikon D80 / Nikkor 105 AF-S VR / f/13 at 1/30 sec / Nikon SB-800 home-fashioned snoot fitted and aimed from close range onto the fork.
Changed the WB to Tungsten for this one Rainy afternoon, kitchen counter, white board, 4 wine glasses – no wine :-( – and: / Nikon D80 / Nikkor 105mm AF-S VR Micro / f/22 @ 1/30 sec ISO 100 WB: Tungsten / SB-600 (background) / SB-800 (diffused on subject)

I know it is a little early, but it is never far from our minds, what with the current reportings in the news. This is dedicated to my Uncle who died in the Falklands war. Here is a little history about that day… / On the night of June 2nd a ‘friendly fire’ incident took place between the SAS and the Special Boat Squadron (SBS). They were mistaken for Argentine forces. A brief firefight was initiated during which one of the SBS patrol, Sergeant Ian Hunt, was gunned down. This tragic incident was the catalyst for improved cooperation between the rival units. Always thinking of you.
