  • Waiting to Say Goodbye
    by Dana DiPasquale

    US$8.55–US$228.00

All rights reserved. This photograph has a very special meaning to me. I was visiting with my aunt and uncle, the family gathered, waiting to attend funeral services for a beloved uncle that has passed away. The night before we did our best to enjoy each other’s company and joke around like we usually do, but mostly we were just trying to get through the night so we could say our goodbyes in the morning. I saw these antique children’s chairs that my aunt had and decided to spend some time taking photos of them to get my mind off of things. I brought the chair out to the garage so that the smooth, rich wood would be in stark contrast to the rough, stained concrete floor. A running theme throughout my photography is viewing objects from new perspectives, so as I stood on a ladder that I found and tried taking photographs without falling, my uncle walked by and laughed at me. “You’re taking a picture of a chair?” he said. I told him “You just wait – this will be a masterpiece!” but I am pretty sure he didn’t believe me. The photograph turned out exactly the way I had envisoned, a sense of being in a room but high above it like an omnipotent source, alone, expecting someone to be there who isn’t, a bit of a faded memory. This fine art piece hangs on my own wall, and I smile when I see it for it is a reminder of the family I love. • You Don't Say?
    by Lisa G. Putman

    US$4.99–US$133.00

Submitted to the Sold! group. / Sold 1 Large Mounted Print, black border with artist details, Mystery Buyer / Featured in the “Primates” Group 9/3/08 / Featured by the group “Endangered Species” 7/08. / Top Ten in the “Primates” Group Avatar Challenge 9/28/08 The Sumatran Orangutan (Pongo abelii) is the rarer of the two species of orangutans. Living and endemic to Sumatra island of Indonesia, they are smaller than the Bornean Orangutan. The Sumatran Orangutan grows to about 4.6 feet tall and 200 pounds in males. Females are smaller, averaging 3 feet and 100 pounds. Compared to the Bornean Orangutan, the Sumatran Orangutans possess a lighter and longer pelage, a longer face, a smaller stature, and flanges that are covered in small white hairs. Wild Sumatran Orangutans in the Suaq Balimbing swamp have been observed using tools. An orangutan will break off a tree branch that’s about a foot long, snap off the twigs and fray one end. It then will use the stick to dig in tree holes for termites. They’ll also use the stick to poke a bees nest wall, move it around and catch the honey. In addition, orangutans use tools to eat fruit. When the fruit of the Neesia tree ripens, its hard, ridged husk softens until it falls open. Inside are seeds that the orangutans love, but they are surrounded by fiberglass-like hairs that are painful if eaten. A Neesia-eating orangutan will select a five-inch stick, strip off its bark, and then carefully collect the hairs with it. Once the fruit is safe, the ape will eat the seeds using the stick or its fingers. Although similar swamps can be found in Borneo, wild Bornean Orangutans have not been seen using these types of tools. Don’t miss out on these other animal images: ! - - - /

  • ...a drop of water on the leaf of a weed in a garden of roses. He’s the Master Of Details, isn’t He? :-) Of the more than 110,000 photographs I’ve taken in the last two years, this is the one that garners the most positive comments and the most admiration. I’ve always loved it but hadn’t know the depth of other’s enjoyment in it until I started showing it in prints and online. Here, it’s the shot I’ve taken with the most comments and the most ‘favouritings’. The very glory of what He does on such an incredibly small scale shows in this simple macro snapshot of a weed. If I had to choose a single photograph I’d call a “masterpiece”, this one or “magnolia” would tie for that title. All profit from the sale of this image is pledged to be donated to the church or pastor of the buyer’s choice. If no choice is specified, I will chose one and note it in my Red Bubble journal. (Please see comments to understand what happened, the complete details of what is planned to happen, and why it will happen, if you’d like to know.)

  • Say "Holidays"
    by Jo O'Brien

    US$3.42–US$91.20

My mother has this lovely spirit about her which I have always admired. As children we grew up with my grandfather’s video camera pointed at us and my mother’s point and shoot. At this Christmas just passed, I was taking family photos and became very aware that all the grandchildren were happy to have their photo taken and even went out of their way to pose and give me their attention for a moment. You could see them ‘sense’ when a candid was coming and stop chewing their food. I found it entertaining. But I’m on a tangent! I spent a weekend in McCrae taking photos, eating nice things and going for drives and bike rides. On the last day we headed up one of the local piers and there were quite a few tourists taking advantage of the long weekend. Watching others having their holiday portraits taken I was reminded of how my mother would aim her camera at us and in an attempt to make us smile, yell out in her lovely sing song way “Say Holidays” Thanks to my collab partner James / Check out joobrien.com.au

  • The people of Geelong are busy protesting AGAINT or lobbying FOR fluoridation of their water. As I use a purifier anyway, it would be hippocritical of me to produce a pro-fluoride t-shirt, so here’s one for the anti-fluoride lobby. Geelong is one of the few places you can get pure water from the tap (other than chlorine and all the other additives of course) so it’s a big and emotional issue here. (Just updated the image. Dumb Dumb I am, I had too many ‘to’s in it! It’s fine now).
