  • Before discovering I had any talent as a photographer, I always took photos of my family on various trips. I caught some precious moments and looking back, I can see that I have always had a photographer’s eye. Then it was primarily representational and as I moved into abstract photography, my images have evolved into a more painterly realm. This shot was taken in Hawaii on the Kona Coast, a wonderful family vacation for children analogous to exploring Tom Sawyer’s Island. Kevie is on the left, not a happy camper since standing for a photograph in a wet towel with his friend Jason was not his idea of fun. This was his first trip to Hawaii where we stayed at Kona Village, a place where young boys are free to do what boys do away from the watchful eye of their parents. He swam, fished, searched for coconuts, played baseball in the afternoons and primarily enjoyed eating and buying goodies at the simple village store. It is sad that in today complex world, children do not have these experiences that we enjoyed in the age of innocence. /

  • Since well trained ninjas made off with posters we put up at the venue to promote the launch we figured some others may enjoy owning your own tiny piece of history. Here is the Sawyer version of the poster including all the launch details, also available without it.

  • What’s cuter than a rattlesnake in yer boot? Why Good Ol’ Boy Sherrif Sawyer. That who! Shown here in uber-cute mini-Sawyer mode. Tell the world exactly how cute you are via the ancient art of t-shirting.

  • We’ve only got 108 minutes to save the world…let people know you are up for the challenge!

  • What do they mean? What do they signify? Will we ever find out?!

  • First time we saw the sun on this trip. The clouds just broke and suddenly lit up the whole scene. Didn’t last long! Taken at South Sawyer Glacier in the Tracy Arm inlet, Alaska. Taken with a D300. Featured in the Mountains and Mountain Light group December, 2008. Be sure to check out some of my other works: /

  • Sawyers was part of a larger building, originally built in the early 1900s as a staging post for coaches on their way to Rules Point. Sawyers is located at Sawyers Hill, near the Rocky Plains fire trail, and immediately beside the Snowy Highway. It is a popular rest stop for motorists. Unfortuantely Sawyers was badly damaged in the fires of ‘03 and has now been restored.

  • These statues are found in Hannibal Missouri. They honor American author, Mark Twain’s famous characters in The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. The Adventures of Tom Sawyer is a popular 1876 novel about a young boy growing up in the antebellum South on the Mississippi River in the fictional town of St. Petersburg, Missouri. Adventures of Huckleberry Finn (often shortened to Huck Finn) published in 1884. It is commonly regarded as one of the Great American Novels, and is one of the first major American novels written in the vernacular, (the common language of that time period and characterized by local color regionalism). / The drifting journey of Huck and his friend Jim, a runaway slave, down the Mississippi River on their raft may be one of the most enduring images of escape and freedom in all of American literature. / (information source: http://en.wikipedia.org)

  • from an old graveyard cemetery in Newburyport. It’s kind of hidden away near Maudslay State Forest. It’s also known as the Quaker Hill Cemetery.

  • A lovely spectacle, granted the wandering around out on the ice floes was off due to melt. The seals seemed to prefer it that way though – sadly, they were even more camera shy than I am. / This photograph was taken in Alaska, and is one of 1,500 that I took while I was there.
