This is the ruin of an old Turkish Fort, set deep in the desert of Saudi Arabia. An old stronghold of days gone by, used by latter day Arabian Kings as a hunting retreat and today as an escape for those willing to venture from the bustle of city life. / I just wanted to add a thank you to hdphotos for sharing a few of her processing techniques of which I have tried to emulate here. Quite a different subject matter, so I hope it comes up to scratch!
Site visits for me can quite often turn into an opportune photo shoot… Working in Saudi Arabia can be a tough call for labourers on building sites.. by law, work should come to a stop when the temperature exceeds 50 degrees celsius, but when there are no thermometers around, contractors looking to get the work done will often turn a blind eye, retreat to their air conditioned site office and allow the work to go on… This shot was taken in the height of summer where temperatures do often exceed 50 degrees and if you find yourself working on the wrong side of the building, not a shadow in sight! From someone who loves dark images and good use of shadows… I thought this was a little different for me! See also ”...and the work goes on”
From a well known British stone monument, Stonehenge uploaded yesterday, to a lesser known Saudi earthwork. Affectionately known as “Edge of the World”, this collosal natural stone monument stands proud along the Tuwaiq Escarpment in the desert north of Riyadh, providing breathtaking views across the old Darb al Hijaz. Darb, meaning ‘way’ was a route used for centuries by travellers moving east-west across Arabia and many of the camel trails can still be seen today.
Thrilled at being asked to take some pictures for my friends who are expecting their fist child, I jumped at the chance and suggested something a little different to the shoot they may have been thinking of having at home… / Shot out in the desert, west of Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on an overcast and windy day… work in post processing, sat in my warm house on an even more overcast and windy day… winters here! / Read my journal for a description of the day… crowds and all!

This was taken out in the Saudi Arabian Desert, I loved the patterns in the sand, it reminded me of the motion of snakes.
Taken on the way home one evening… Al Mamlaka – Kingdom Tower, Riyadh. Saudi Arabia. A bit of pub quiz general knowledge for you… The Kingdom Tower, opened in 2002, is currently Saudi Arabias tallest skyscraper and was the first of its kind to have a ladies only floor included in the adjoining shopping mall. On Ladies Kingdom women can feel free to walk around with out wearing their abaya, be served by women and not have to worry about their husbands seeing them pile on the credit!
Wandering round the souks downtown in Riyadh can leave you spoiled for choice… with so many shops offering the same goods for sale, be it carpets or spices, it’s no wonder the shop keepers have time to sit and watch the world walk on by…

This is the screen you get here (Saudi Arabia) when you go to websites restricted by the government. I’m conflicted towards internet filtering in principle, but I’m against state-wide censorship.
