  • I thought this violin would make a nice picture, along with its bow and a violin music score. THANKS to the people who have purchased this card! xxx

  • This is the first time I have seen the flower of the Puya plant. It is a bromeliad and a native of South America ( I understand ) The plant only flowers every 5 years. I think the flowers are beautiful. Not only because of the very unusual colour but also because of the thick satin petals. The image does not adhere to the rule of thirds- I could have cropped it but I felt the colour balance in the overall image was worth holding on to. I quite like it / I hope you enjoy too /

  • This picture has been sold as a large mounted print. / / I was browsing and commenting on work one morning when suddenly my computer alerted me to an email notification that the sale had been made. Someone whose work I had just commented on had paid Persimmon a visit and immediately made the purchase! / Also in the calendar /

  • Once upon a time there was a little girl who simply loved shoes. She loved high heeled shoes and flat shoes, sensible shoes and silly shoes. In fact, she thought all shoes were beautiful. Then one day while out shopping, the most beautiful pair of shoes called out to her from the nearby shoe shop shelf. “Hello little girl who loves shoes,” said the black shiny shoes (for everybody in the land knew that this was the little girl who simply loved shoes). Well, the little girl fell instantly in love with the black shiny shoes but alas she didn’t have a special occasion to wear them to and so couldn’t take them home with her, so she spoke kindly to the shoes, “Oh, sweet little shoes, you truly are the most beautiful shoes I’ve ever seen, but I have no special place to wear you. The only way I can take you home is if the Shoe Fairy grants me a wish – if only I had a fancy-dancy ball to wear you to, then I would bring you home and wear you to the ball and we would dance, and we would be so very happy!” That afternoon, when the little girl checked the letterbox, what should she find but a pink and silver envelope and in that envelope was a shiny pink and silver invitation to a fancy-dancy ball. The shoe fairy had granted the little girl her wish!! The little girl was so happy, she rushed back to tell all her other shoes she would be bringing a new shoe friend over to meet them. So the little girl got into her shiny little car and drove back to the shops as fast as she could (without speeding of course, because that would be silly and dangerous and really not necessary). And there they were – her black shiny shoes with the most beautiful satin ribbon – waiting for her. The little girl was so happy at being able to buy those beautiful shiny black shoes, that she celebrated by buying a new shiny red dress with the most beautiful shiny red satin ribbon. And they lived happily ever after. And as she lay down to sleep after the fancy-dancy ball, the happy little girl who simply loved shoes was heard to whisper, “thank you Shoe Fairy, I love you Shoe Fairy,” which made the Shoe Fairy smile. Inspired by the wonderful TTV images of Jules Campbell. Please view her TTV images, they really are quite exceptional. (taken with argus argoflex 75 and canon S5)

  • L’amour, studio vintage glamour, 2009.

  • Taken at dawn, Lake Glenmaggie, Victoria. Even though the water level is around 19%, there are still plenty of opportunities for the photographer who’s willing to get up early and walk around in thick, heavy mud that’s around 4 inches deep. And then afterward drive up to the local car wash to pressure wash your boots and your tripod… Shot with a Nikon D200, 12-24mm lens at 17mm, F/11, 100 ISO. 7 shot HDR, merged/mapped in Photomatix, touched up in Photoshop. You can choose from any of my images. / Born in Arequipa, Peru, Joaquin Alberto Vargas y Chávez came to the United States in 1916 after studying art in Europe prior to World War I. He was the son of famous Peruvian photographer Carlos Vargas. His early career included work as an artist for the Ziegfeld Follies and for many Hollywood studios. Vargas’ most famous piece of film work was that for the 1933 film The Sin of Nora Moran, which shows a near-naked Zita Johann in a pose of desperation. The poster is frequently named one of the greatest movie posters ever made. He became famous in the 1940s as the creator of iconic World War II era pin-ups for Esquire magazine known as “Varga Girls.” The nose art of many World War II aircraft was adapted from these Esquire pin-ups. A legal dispute with Esquire over the use of the name “Varga” resulted in a judgment against Vargas and he struggled financially until the 1960s when Playboy magazine began to use his work as “Vargas Girls.” His career flourished and he had major exhibitions of his work all over the world. The death of his wife Anna Mae in 1974 left him devastated and he stopped painting. The publication of his autobiography in 1978 renewed interest in his work and brought him partially out of his self-imposed retirement to do a few works, such as album covers for Bernadette Peters and The Cars. He died of a stroke on December 30, 1982, at the age of 86. Many of Vargas’ works from his period with Esquire are now held by the Spencer Museum of Art at the University of Kansas, which was given those works in 1980 along with a large body of other art from the magazine. At the December 2003 Christies auction of Playboy archives, the 1967 Vargas painting “Trick or Treat” sold for $71,600, a record for his works. His work was typically a combination of watercolor and airbrush. His mastery of the airbrush is acknowledged by the fact that the highest achievement in the community of airbrush artistry is the Vargas Award, awarded annually by Airbrush Action Magazine. His images would often portray elegantly dressed, semi-nude to nude women of idealized proportions. Vargas’ artistic trait would be slender fingers and toes, with nails often painted red. Vargas is widely regarded as one of the finest artists in his genre. He also served as a judge for the Miss Universe beauty contest in 1956-58. Notable women painted by Vargas include Olive Thomas, Billie Burke, Nita Naldi, Marilyn Miller, Paulette Goddard and Ruth Etting. Olive Thomas (October 20, 1894 – September 10, 1920) was an American silent film actress and socialite. She was a Ziegfeld girl and the original flapper. She is best remembered for her marriage to Jack Pickford and her untimely death.
